Is it me, perhaps because I'm getting old (news flash: we all are) but are our Prime Ministers getting increasingly more and more sh*te?

I'm not arguing about their politics, that's a discussion for another day - I'm just thinking about their level of competency.

If John Smith didn't die suddenly then Blair probably wouldn't have been pm then.

If Labour chose the other Mlliband brother as leader then Miliband could have been pm instead of Cameron.

If Cameron hadn't been pm then maybe no EU vote and no Brexsh1t and no Johnson the Clown as pm.

Yes and politicians too. Same happening across the world.

Without doubt one of our greatest politicians and one of the greatest Britons was Churchill, yet he’s now reviled by the pinkos.

You can actually make an anagram from all their surnames, reads absolute cluster fvck, yeah ok I've missed out a few letters, but you get my drift.👍

No second world war and Churchill was a pile of shite.

The greatest prime minister was the one that put it all back together and enacted the nhs after Churchill had been royally fucked off. I know he came back but what a mistake that was.

The greatest wartime politician for sure, and worthy of greatness for that. Not a great politician, or man, though, by any means. The myth dwarfs the man. Bit like Princess Di without the tits. But enough about Carling and Hewitt.

To be fair I only know what my old fella told me about Churchill. I have no interest in the British continued obsession with 75 years ago and never have.

We tend to look at politicians with the same kind of dewy eyed nostalgia as we do in other walks of life thinking the older ones were the best. It’s mostly bollocks of course and that’s not to say the current ones are any good because they’re self evidently not. The last three PMs though, all Tories of course, have collectively brought the country to the brink of oblivion and all due to trying to resolve an internal party split over Europe that most of Britain didn’t actually care all that much about. Cameron held a referendum and fucked off to leave the rest deal with the mess when it went wrong. May was massively over promoted and had no clue about pretty much anything. But since then Johnson has made May look like a great statesperson on account of his opportunism, short termism and abject stupidity. And now, as many said we would, we’re starting to see the real impacts of leaving the EU except that they, fortunately for them, have COVID to pin the blame for the upcoming economic catastrophe on yet we’ll all know where the real blame will lay even if many won’t admit it. Still, taking back control, suck it up etc. Basically the gammon have won the arguments so good luck sorting it out lads. Oh you won’t suffer we know that. That was the plan all along.

Oh, and Monny nicely debunked the myth of Churchill above. Well said like.

The miner’s strike bookended ‘O’ levels for me in the Rhondda. I went on to ‘A’ levels, University etc.
Some, with fathers in the industry, had to leave school.
Completely politically motivated to destroy the NUM, who had brought down Heath. Exacerbated by Scargill’s extremity the other way (though his claim was correct, he went about the strike as if a revolutionary leader). Indelible impression and why I will never vote Tory, even if it would be better for me financially to do so.
Thatcher destroyed society in this country on the altar of business and regulation. Industry has never truly recovered as we became a financial and services economy. The positives of the Blair government in huge improvement in education and health are forgotten with the negatives of continuing Tory policy and the Middle East wars. Short memories that the Tories wanted more financial de-regulation and the crash could have easily been deeper.
Cameron near killed the U.K. public sector and we had the EU referendum simply to stop Tory civil war

Well said, never have and never will ever vote Tory and to a point wont ever and never ever have been in a Cons club, would never give them a penny, watching the programme it seems that Scargill and Th*****r were made for each other and I think it's well document of the one fatal flaw he made by no balloting the whole industry which on winning would have brought her to her knees probably

Failure to ballot was a massive error as was the decision to call the strike in the spring after a sustained period of the government amassing coal stocks to record levels at the power stations because they knew the strike was coming. Thatcher climbed down in 1981 because she knew that coal stocks were insufficient to go to war with the NUM and made sure that the government weren’t exposed when the inevitable war actually took place.

Tactically Scargill was incompetent and the miners were lions led by a particularly stupid donkey.

No doubt Scargill wanted the fight, but pretty sure he feared South Wales and without doubt the Notts coalfields would not have supported the ballot. Without that vote is became near-impossible for the miners to win. A well-paid and motivated police reduced the ability to break supply via the use of lorries too. No doubt the mines would have to shut long-term, but the example of Tower showed South Wales at least had a decade or so as viable industry. I went to University in London in 1986. It may as well been another planet the difference in wealth and quality of life, educational standards and expectations. I don't forget what it was like to be truly skint.

Completely agree with this. I was in 6th form college and became a 'flying picket' during the strike. Only twice, until it was outlawed and my father told me to stop.
