The ‘Vítor Matos’ Managerial Thread

I'd still look at the British managers whose teams are currently 1 and 2 in league one.
The Second Tier podcast were talking the Lincoln manager up last week. Sounds like a very very direct style of play though.

Challinor has had continued success at Stockport and surprised no ‘bigger’ club has come in for him.

You’d think they’d both be in the mix if we’re casting the net wider.

There’s a guy called Luke Williams who’s been recently appointed at bottom of the league Peterborough in League 1… played 4, won 4, scoring goals for fun and playing football like 1980s Brazil.
Yes and when he was with us he thought Grimes was the best thing since sliced bread, especially when he spent 80% of a match in the middle of the back 4, passing it back and fore, thereby killing the game. Sheehan lost the plot when he abandoned his attacking mentality once he had the gig full time. Now maybe Williams, unlike Russ, has realised the error of his ways, and perhaps working for a while at Bristol Airport has made him wake up, but I wouldn't stake my house on that. Sometimes when opportunities come along, the person grabs it with both hands, and sometimes they're out of their depth. That, for me is Williams. I may be proved wrong, but I believe he's destined to manage in league 1 and/or 2, for most of his career. We'll see.

Yep, sound like the Lincoln manager - Skubala? Can’t be arsed to search his name would be another Michael Duff type appointment - complete opposite of how we play.

Whos not taking us seriously? Our club was praised from all corners for their business in the window, they sacked an underperforming manager - just as the fans wanted by the way and seem to have acted very quickly to get a replacement judging from the articles appearing today from Portugal. They also gave the boot to an ineffective DOF who is now in league 2. No complaints from me.
All that is praise on the owners, the owners have been a breath of fresh air.
To carry on or put a solid foundation for their work to be effective, they need to get someone in who has experience in football.

I'm not for protecting people if it's not working, i get the feeling that you may be going down this route......to protect individual/s.
The club is my interest and if that means calling for something to happen then I will, I get people won't agree but it's becoming clear we need an experienced football figure in a role such as DOF or similar.

Martimo well within their rights to be playing hardball over Swansea's interest in Vitor Matos. Managerial appointment now turning into yet another recruitment saga for the club. Surprises me that Will Still has not been more closely linked - available and good fit.

I said back then and stick by my view that Sheehan blew it when he decided to have Stamenic play like Grimes. Except Stamenic is slow, ponderous and if it wasnt for his physicality would have lost the ball numerous times between the back 2 and let players in on goal.

I thought we were getting a midfield 3 of Ethan, Franco and Widdell.
Instead we got a ponderous Stamenic and the same Grimesque stlye in the middle or just in front of 2 center halves. Granted Widdel may not be ready for this level but we have Yalcouye too

I hope the new manager dumps Stamenic to the bench with Fulton and is only used to close out games

You think owners sign players and managers? I doubt you think that really? Or do you?

As a STH for many, many years, in my opinion, theres been nowt wrong with this years decision making at the club and the speed in which the decisions were made. It has actually been a major improvement on recent times. How many times have people moaned about the club dragging their feet in the past?

Really not sure where all this negativity has sprung from. A certain toxic element of the fanbase is spreading negativity without any basis - could there be an agenda or are they just miserable gits in every dayblife? They wanted fresh players in the window. They got them. They wanted AS out. Hes gone.
The only thing missing is results and I am with them with that obviously. Forget the play offs. Forget promotion - for now. If either of those happen great.

As for protecting individuals..couldn't give a rats ar$e about names on doors, titles, or who does what. Bloody sure if anyone screws up or doesn't pull their weight or is not fit for purpose they will booted out like Montague and I trust the current owners to continue in that vein. Stop making it about personalities. Its OUR club. Sick to the back teeth of all this whining and sense of entitlement.

And before I sign off, just to clear up a misunderstanding which I spotted elsewhere, despite my username- .I am not one of the fairer sex ( although I am a bloody handsome sod). Nicknamed Mamas in my workplace due to an overly long Greek surname.

Some people thrive on drama and some people love to seek attention, just ignore them you handsome bastard 😉

Out of curiosity what's an acceptable amount of days to replace a manager?

Norwich took a while. What are we on now 11 days?

Agreed on this. I am slightly sick of the best summer ever narrative that people seem inclined to continue to push. We have sacked the manager we hired in the summer and the transfers may turn out successful but we have yet to see that on the pitch yet. There are a few suspicious accounts popping up, mainly on X but sometimes on here, with a very narrow range of topics they seem to engage in. Anybody claiming a clear victory or defeat on either side of the divide is jumping the gun and they need to give it some time or they will end up with egg on their faces. It has been a worrying few months to be a fan of the club and a frustrating one but we are seven points clear of relegation and have a competitive squad for the league even if the starting eleven is lacking in some areas. Hopefully this has been a crash course on football clubs for the owners and their decisions will improve in time to match their intent.

Eleven days in an International break is probably the equivalent to four days during the season, it is not like we have been without a coach for four games. An underwhelming few weeks but there is no crisis or fire to extinguish.
