My birthday was coming up and I wanted Beach Boys 20 Golden Greats as a present, the one with the surfer on the front. My then girlfriend bought me 52nd Street instead because l liked the song "My Life". I wasn't very happy at the time. Worse was she'd only been playing the bleedin' thing non-stop for a week before my birthday. She dumped me soon after and in my grief I went out and bought The Stranger album. The rest is history.

True story.

My mam used to have that beach boys greatest hits one you are on about, i played it non stop in the late 70s and early 80s, loved it and i still love their songs now.

I do wonder where that album has gone as I bet its worth bit.

52nd.Street went to No.1 in USA, today in 1978.

Big seller- many copies. Rare and collectable is where the money is:

Sold this:
https://www.discogs.com/P-J-Harvey-Dry/release/1748084

And this:
https://www.discogs.com/Radiohead-Drill-EP/release/767600

For over 100 each a few years back. Some pretty obscure labels like Sarah Records are highly collectable. Singles go from 15-100 dependent on rarity.

That was also the first cd released, October 1st 1982. Of all the dates, they had to choose my birthday.
