** Today's statement read: "FIFA wishes to clarify that reports of the so-called 'blue card' at elite levels of football are incorrect and premature.

"Any such trials, if implemented, should be limited to testing in a responsible manner at lower levels.". **

What happens if the keeper gets one?
Plus there is a likely outcome of a team down to 7/8 men very quickly. Wouldn't that constitute an abandoned game ?

So basically what FIFA said was "If it fucks up someone like Maidstone United winning a promotion that could financially secure them for several years its OK but if it denied Manchester City a Premier league title then its not OK"

Same reason why the FA allow VAR if the game is at a Premier League ground in the FA Cup!

FIFA have a huge opportunity to clean up one of the worst parts of the game (cynical tactical fouls) and look like they are going to bottle it. Sin bins for dissent and fouls that disrupt a promising attacking move but don't meet the threshold for a red card would immediately stamp out these problems.

Of course teams would then cynically try to waste time with feigned injury etc to minimise the time the ball is in play, but that would just strengthen the call for the 60 minute match with the clock only running while the ball is in play.

Those who changes would be seismic but I honestly cannot see how at the top level of the game they would be bad for the sport. At lower levels timekeeping would become a bigger strain on a ref who usually already has to act as linesman and fourth official without having to pause and restart his stopwatch every time the ball goes out of play or he has to blow for a foul. But at the top? It would clean up the game immeasurably

Any gobbing off towards the ref, straight red, only have to do it a couple of times and the penny will drop, job done 👍

They tried that this year, with kicking the ball away and deliberate time-wasting and disruption and yellows cards being the result. It lasted about 5/6 games and now its back to the way it was before, with ref not given it any notice.

Because of complaints from... you guessed it the sides with all the power and political clout who are the most notorious for this sort of "gamesmanship"
