Definitely required. Get rid of the ‘professional foul’. Although, last night one was committed in the Nigeria v RSA game a few minutes before the end of the game, which might be worth considering if it prevents a goal.

Absolutely required in football. So often you see an attack broken up because someone takes a player out who is leading a breakaway but know that the worst punishment they will get is a yellow card. Doesn't matter if it was a 4v1 if they got past him because he wasn't the last man it couldn't be ruled a "clear goalscoring opportunity"

Dissent to referees also needs addressing, not so much at the highest level as premier league refs are very well paid to get an earful for an hour and half. But because that behaviour filters down through to grass roots football and is emulated by kids who watch their idols week in week out and believe that it is acceptable to verbally abuse volunteer refs who often get paid nothing at all.

I've always thought those cynical fouls where a breakaway is ended with a deliberate trip or shove should be a red, they're often way too consequential to be classed as a yellow.

If you want to 'take one for the team', you better be prepared to head down the tunnel afterwards. Either that or get more creative with the cost - If it's a clear cynical attempt to stop a counter, make it a yellow and a penalty (even though it's outside the box), or otherwise make the punishment harsher without having to bring in new card colours or 'sin bins'. If giving a pen is too much, give the attacking team a direct free-kick on the edge of the box or something. Those quick counter attacks are often the most exciting parts of a game, so I'm all for revising rules to protect them.

I think something should be done about the "taking one for the team" type foul to stop a breakway attack. It really boiled my p*ss when Rodon did it for Dirty Leeds against Plymouth on Tuesday. However, I would prefer it if refs could use existing sanctions, not have to introduce new cards and sin bins.
This would mean upgrading it to a red.
As far as dissent is concerned, the sanction is already there, a yellow card, followed by a red if it continues or is repeated. When I was reffing at local level, I always got the yellow out, they soon shut up.

Works very well in rugby, as does the TMO.

If the football snobs speak to their counterparts in the egg, i see no reason why it wouldn't improve the game.

Works well in practice. As players adapt they call for a sin bin rather than a card. Ten minutes off. It is a lot to manage the ten minutes if you are a sole ref at grass roots. But players get the message quick as the sin bin can be extended by 5 mins if binner or coach becomes testy about timing.

No reason why it cannot apply to all leagues and would improve attitudes to officials despite Sean Dyche's views, uncontrolled emotions and bad sportsmanship.

Does sort out the duckheads' there are always one or two per team per game that make you puss boil inside.

Not sure, not because all the backchat, dissent and other stuff doesn’t need a clear sanction, but because of effectiveness. It works in rugby because the average outcome is 7 points against. One player makes a big difference. In football, it is pretty easy to defend 10 minutes, plus time waste and piss about. I’d rather, as Pego says use current sanctions more liberally until they get the message, or make the sin bin 30 minutes or the balance of the second half if shorter.

The other risk with this is that refs wimp out of deserved reds (where there is no var). I assume the blue also counts as a yellow? In which case make every yellow a 15 minute sin bin automatically, as in rugby, you don’t need another complication. Then teams would be a lot more careful as multiple yellows would hurt.

"In the trials, blue cards will give referees the power to send players off for 10 minutes for dissent or cynical fouls."

"Two blue cards would result in a player's dismissal for the rest of the match, as would a blue and a yellow card."

Once you get into the last 10 mins of the game then it's just a free for all

A blue card 1 minute from the end means bugger all

100 % this, amend the rules and utilise existing card system. Not a fan of this blue card idea, and while they are at it get rid of VAR its bollox.👍

This is a separate issue to tackle, but options could include Blue Cards not being used in the final 10 minutes and instead upgraded to a red (which means the player being suspended for at least one game, more depending on repeat offenses / disciplinary records)
