Just re-watched the lot on BBC4 and have to say nothing much has really changed for the working classes in 40 years. The pub scene with 'shake hands' and the guy doing the bird noises whilst the pot man snatches everyones drinks as someone put speed in the slops was funny, but the rest was grim as I remember it when it was first shown 40 years ago. Classic drama and worth a re-watch.
 
26 years ago I last watched it when UK gold was launched (I remember euro'96 being on)
I remember thinking back then that it was still relevant.
 
The first time I ever saw the scene where he’s in confession with priest I honestly thought I was going to die when he says “I’m desperate Father.”

The priest replies “you can call me Dan.”

And he says “I’m desperate Dan.” :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
