• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler
    Owner, jackarmy.net

What is the issue as others have stated Russ has a contract for another 12 months why the rush to get it extended?

He hasnt exactly set the world alight over the last two seasons, what has he done to persuade the ownership he is worthy of a long term deal?

IF he gets poached ( which I doubt) we will receive some compo form his current contract.
Lets him prove himself between August and Christmas then possibly consideration could be given to a new deal

Lets not forget it was not that long ago many were calling for his head during that wonderful run of losses

Many calling for his head ? I don’t think so, only the half a dozen members of the lunatic fringe on here.

I can honestly say that even at the stadium I hardly came across anybody who felt he should be sacked, mind you, being a legend since 73 means that not many are prepared to challenge my opinion.

I didn't express a rush to give a new contract specifically. I expressed some urgency in getting some stability either way. Be that Martin new contract, Martin confirmed for 1 last season or Martin gone and replaced.

What do you want them to do? Hold a press conference stating that he's not being sacked or offered a new deal?

Our chairman hasn't been averse to publicly announcing that he doesn't like speculation. No reason he can't nip this one in the bud.

Or don't announce it but just get on with preparations behind the scenes, not only now starting the one process before other processes can commence. We appear to the be at process before the process stage, when we should and could be at the second process stage.

Being reported now that the Swansea based chairman is going to be 'heart of talks'. That Martin and him are flying over to America to have....

Martin in a win win situation here if the Leicester and Southampton interest is genuine, he’ll ask for more than he probably originally wanted on a new deal now.

The legendary Otto Rehhagel, former manager of Werder Bremen. After promotion in the eighties he won two Bundesliga titles and was manager for 14 years. He always had a one year renewable contract and had a mutual understanding with the club that he wouldn’t want to stay if not wanted. Always despised the press and would always stick up for his „lads“. Times change but not always for the better.

Martin has a contract for another 12 months, so from that perspective the club don’t need to do anything, BUT, there’s a bigger picture to consider. Firstly signing new players, most will want to know the what they’re getting in to, prospects, clubs intended playing style etc etc just as we’d like to know about our employment prospects if we were being offered a new job. There’s a need to strengthen the squad, let’s get players in that suit the style, ethos etc and let’s get it done early.

If the Leicester and Soton interest is genuine, he’ll be gone and won’t sign anything that might impair that. If it’s not, why bother now? He’s got loads to prove. All he’s proved so far is that he’s a mid table manager, whose preferred playing style is a loser, and he spends the transfer kitty on a pile of horseshit.
