Am I the only one that didn’t get it?
The minute he came through the door he was immediately raised to a level that for a man that had done virtually nothing in the game managerial wise was bizarre.
I thought it was weird then and even weirder now.
We had a thread on here last September where people were saying they could see what he was trying to do and I was like what is he trying to do?
It was boring as f*ck,still is and not much different to last season under Cooper.
Don’t get me wrong I’m more than happy to let him have next summer and a pre-season but what am I missing?
We are going into February this coming week and surely he should have put some kind of stamp on the team by now because if everyone is bluntly honest this is bollox.

It's the inconsistency I don't get. Huge swings in ability. I don't get that part.

I fell for it when he came in, I got excited but to be honest now I'm losing my way with it, I think he's bluffing it, another smart talker with little substance and he reminds of of Cooper in done ways with his waffle, what he says and what we see from the team has a massive disconnect.

He’s learning his trade and is learning it with us. He may turn into the next Martinez or he may turn into the next (someone who didn’t turn out to be up to much). We’ll see.

I still don’t get why people were raising him to such a bizarre level though.

Your not the only one at times I thought I was the only one. His style to me is possession for possessions sake. The players constantly make mistakes and lose the ball. The occasional row Z doesn't seem to be allowed. Exciting football it ain't. Steve Coopers wasn't but the results eased that.

The eternal optimism of the football fan. Especially the younger ones. It tends to get replaced by apathy and/or cynicism as you get older. My mate came over to watch the game today, both of us season ticket holders of long standing. The game was on in the background but we spent most of the afternoon chatting away and paying very little attention to it. Sad fact for me at the moment is that I don’t particularly care anymore. Maybe that passion will return maybe it won’t. Time will tell. For what it’s worth I think Martin should be here for some time. We can’t keep changing managers every time we lose a few games or an entitled fanbase starts to get angsty. But I agree that this season we’ve been no more entertaining than under Cooper but have lost the ability to grind out results that we had under him. It’s not a good mix.

I don't get it either. We are told he's a good manager and 80% of the fans swallowed it, without proof of any achievement. In my opinion, he has a better squad than Cooper but we struggle mid-table and the players look completely unaware of where they should be or what they should be doing. When a player receives the ball he stops, puts his foot on it, and looks around to see what they should do next instead of passing on swiftly. First half today it looked as if no one was interested, actually stepping back from the ball to receive a pass, instead of running on to it to get to the ball before the marker and take the ball on the move. This attitude was pretty general first half and it was down to the skipper to hand out a rollicking or two, but he was as bad as anyone.

Difference is Coopers talking was done on the pitch getting results....and this season again...could well be in the play off zone tomorrow night....5th place ..not bad for a lucky fraud.....meanwhile Martin is still being put on a pedestal whilst we languish in 17th place

Martinez was some parts lucky in that he had a good nucleus to start his project with

Britton, Pratley, even Robbo were already here and had ball playing attributes about them

He brought in the likes Bodde, Williams, De Vries and it slowly just clicked.

I don't think Martin has much to work with in all truth, the squad is simply bang average, and it will be on him to change that.

We had a decent team 10-15 years ago.
Had a meteoric rise but had decent players.
We haven't decent players anymore.
Some are good, none are great, most are average.

The manager has ideas that need intelligent players.
You need money for them.
We aren't a club that has either.

As alluded to by ECB, I have the game on radio Wales most Saturday afternoons but lately I end up not listening and doing something else as it is obvious we aren't playing well and I haven't got the effort levels to listen to moaning commentators.

We are top of the league in possession but 17th overall.

Also we were a club on the up then and Martinez had goodwill from being a playing legend here. Now we’re not and Martin doesn’t.

You can blame Martin for the way we set up, no plan B or whatever you like, but you can't make allowance for players failing to do the basics or only putting half a shift in.

Martinez wasn't lucky, he had intelligent players that could apply themselves to what he asked of them.
Russel Martin hasn't got a squad or club capable enough to achieve his aims.
Money is an obvious factor , bright and ambitious players the other.
We have neither.
But some still overhype certain players.
"So and so is premier League class" being a massive cringeworthy comment that is used now and again if we win.

the manager is still culpable for the players performance he obviously isn't drilling the basics enough in training and not motivating them properly on match say so they put in a full shift
