It was more than disappointing yesterday to have my working day and evening disrupted due to posts on this website.
For the umpteenth time in recent months I find myself again this week on an island in the Irish Sea away from the family and on this occasion having given up a bank holiday Monday to travel here. That’s not a sympathy vote but it’s a large reason why this site and even Swansea City as a whole take a (very far) back seat in my life . For someone who spent 15 years spending many many hours of spare time for the football club that’s a big difference but life has other priorities and football just isn’t as important as it was to me.
Over the past few years I have had many moments where I have considered bringing to a close this site which - as a reminder - came under my control in 2001. The move from fansnetwork was one that was designed to reignite my desire and for almost five years it’s carried on.
For it to continue to carry on though it needs the support of every single poster that adds content whether it’s to the forum or the comments on what are for now pretty infrequent articles. That support just comes my continuing to use the website with no desire to cause me any outside issues.
As has always been the case you are all welcome to make your posts and of course discuss swans news whether it be from here or websites away from here. That’s not difficult but what seems to be difficult is discussing it without it developing into personal attacks on people and their families and that is where I end up becoming embroiled in discussions about them which generally happens at times when im not online which largely means I am naturally doing other things which have to be paused to react .
Today that ends. I don’t know the reasons that Duncan shut down his forum but I can certainly relate to it if it became as time consuming against other priorities as this site can at times.
The site will celebrate 25 years next year if things can operate in a civil manner. 25 years that have generated hundreds of millions of page views and , no matter what anyone else says , it’s played its own part in the history of Swansea City particularly in the early days . A part of which I am immensely proud.
Over the recent weeks there are a lot of new posters here and it’s a pleasure to welcome you but can I ask that everyone follows the site rules and respects the views above. Whatever people think of me and my decisions ultimately this site is my responsibility and it will operate in a way that is good for my own mental wellbeing , something that for many years I did not heed enough attention to and I know I’ll never make those mistakes again.
there are many people on this site now who were here when it started (also same can be said of posters on other sites too) and also people who pre dated that with time on swanmail in the early days of the internet . People over time I have come to call friends and others maybe less so (
) and let’s hope that continues over the years to come but that really is down to you .
Be polite, be courteous and more importantly be kind no matter what you are talking about . And if you can’t do that on certain subjects then I just suggest you don’t post what you are thinking .
Finally for anyone who has issues with other posters on any site then contact them directly and talk it through with them . I don’t need to be part of those arguments and if you make me part of them I may just take away your ability to continue.
I’ve locked this thread as it doesn’t for me need replies but by all means if you want to clarify a point in it then please drop me a DM and I will reply. For those of you that can contact me other ways please do. I will respond I just don’t promise to be quick! Feel free though to give the post a thumbs up if you are that way inclined
Lets take this website to 25 years and beyond but that is really down to you as the forum viewers/posters/lurkers
