That said, there’s a full house at The Oval tonight and a healthy one for the women’s game last night so if it takes off and attracts more people to the other formats it’s all good I suppose.

Bit Meh, for me as well Dicky, much to do about nothing, don't know what they expected to be different apart from 20 balls less to ball and 20 balls less to bat. Hartley is a talent though, watched him a few yrs ago on Tele and he looked a talent then, surprised he hasn't had a call up, to be honest. Unless he has and I missed it

What would you have done?

A second T20 domestic competition? How would that impact on the Blast? How many teams? Using existing Counties? Who do you get rid of?

More funding for the Blast that would have ended up with a watered down product compared with the Hundred (i.e. players more spread out)?

How would you tie that in with ensuring the Women's competition was on equal footing?

Will it attract any people other than those that would go to 20 20 anyway, and will they go to both? Good to see the women playing, 100 balls though… It’s not my bag (it’s just not cricket!) but if people enjoy it then good on them.

Another nail in the County Championship coffin, whilst also making the Royal London One Day Cup a 2nd eleven competition...

It's because the ECB invented T20, but didn't market or monetise it properly. India then turned out in to a massive cash cow, so the ECB said "let's invent another game", but couldn't actually come up with anything that innovative.

But as Monny said, this isn’t really attracting an audience that wouldn’t have already been there. I can’t imagine we’re going to see a Hundred World Cup any time soon mind.

Presumably they wanted a lucrative, high end T20 style competition but it was logistically impossible to do without inventing a new format.

I doubt it’s here to stay but I bet it’ll pave the way for an 8 team T20 competition

Personally I think it’s a far more accessible version of the game. It’s simplified and I think they’ve got a good chance of attracting new fans to cricket
