Then you need the workforce to administer the vaccines, doctors/nurses will have to spend most of their time doing this rather than other appointments.

I wonder if you'd need doctors and/or nurses to administer it or of it would be something others could be trained to do like phlebotomy.

If it's the latter then the workforce could be increased whilst having less of an effect on other services.

Yeah, I'm guessing that will happen. Medics from the army for example should be fine with it.

The quicker it’s available the better but let’s not forget the government will be in charge of efficient and effective distribution. So sometime in 2030 is my guess.

Do not think i have a problem with the older generation having it asap, what i am weary of are the younger generation, no matter what the experts say they will not know if there will be any problems due to receiving the vaccine in years to come, many will yet to have children etc, will it cause other problems 10 years or so down the line.

Currently vaccinations have to be done by nurses and fully qualified staff. I think the best way of dealing with this quickly is to roll it out by making bank shifts available and using pharmacists etc as they currently administer flu jabs. Unless they do it through the bank shifts it will mean removing staff from the “frontline” and will adversely impact on services. In our area phlebotomists are thing on the ground.

People are looking to cling onto potential good news but as you say plenty of work to be done before this becomes a proper reality.

Yep. There's a lot more to it than just shipping them, even when they are ready. Doctor's surgeries need the correct refrigeration equipment, as do all of the transport vehicles. Then you need the workforce to administer the vaccines, doctors/nurses will have to spend most of their time doing this rather than other appointments. A lot of logistical work to be done, which Hancock says is underway...and the reason that I'm not so confident!

Don’t be surprised to see “field” surgeries being opened around the place.

I am going to sit this one out, I would rather take a chance with covid than a rushed vaccine. I just want people's choice to be respected, none of this scaremongering from the media.

Pfizer seems to be getting all the plaudits for this but all credit to the modest German/Turkish couple who actually developed it in their company Biontech.

If/when it's offered to me i'll take it. The antivaxxers do my head in, grown adults truly believing that it is a way for Bill Gates to microchip everyone on the planet for some unknown reason.

Zero votes so far for the anti-vaxxer option.

I would love to be first in the queue but, reading the BBC they say:-

“There will also be some people - such as those with a weak immune system - who will not be able to have the vaccine.”

As I have a weak immune system having taken immunosuppressant medication for 26 years it’s not looking good.

That would probably rule me out too. 🙁

Well as its not a live vaccine as such it may be possible, though not likely. The alternative would be a subunit based on the spike protein, but unlikely to be very effective. Have to hope there is enough coverage to get herd immunity to reduce transmission

Now that we are underway with this enormous challenge are there any bodies collecting and publishing data on vaccine deployment numbers?

Clearly the Department of Health will be doing that, as will the individual health trusts.

No, not for me, thanks.
For those who want and need it, go for it.👍
