Spain have no sharp end. Can see them losing on pens. A bit of luck and Engo really could win this. They know where the net is.

Stupid question time from me...

Why are ITV using ESP for the Spain abbreviation? Yes, Espana, but are they doing that for all countries? Did they show wales as CYM? (Can't remember if they showed a Wales game or not).

Second one, why is Morocco abbreviated as MAR? Is it due to my first question?

Important questions being asked here on PS!

I think they're using the official ISO codes... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-3

Moroccan stamps and banknotes have Royaume du Maroc and Banque du Maroc on them if that helps. Don't know about the Cym

Wales don't have one.

Still, why not MOR for Morocco? :D

Did some Googling:

This is because of the large French influence in the country, whilst the official languages of the country are Arabic and Berber. The French word for Morocco is Maroc - and the abbreviation MAR is therefore used for sporting events and as the official country code

I bet they wouldn't use DEU for Germany or CHE for Switzerland. And they definitely wouldn't use HRV for Croatia

Anyone switching on a game that's in progress and looks into the top left corner top see that HRV are leading CHE 1-0 would be thinking WTF? Who are these teams?

Just had another look and apparently there's a list of official FIFA codes. Germany are GER, Switzerland are SUI and Wales are indeed WAL.

Why the feck do we need to know the spin rate of the ball🤦‍♂️

Some of the spurious stats they've been showing during games are more appropriate to American Football than footie...like 'Defensive Line Breaks' or some such bollox....
