Although he is 100% right about it being in the past. Nearly a decade ago since the Swansea Way died when Laudrup left the building. You could say that more time has now passed than the Swansea Way actually lasted. It was a phenomenon that started under Martinez and put to bed by Monk. It is only during Potter's tenure that we came close to a return to it. Some people may be fooled by Russy Marts, but that was not the Swansea Way of Martinez, Brenda and Laudrup. True, there was a lot of passing, but that's where the resemblance started and finished.

We can fool ourselves that it started before Martinez, but for me that is just lies. No one who darkened the door at the Vetch during the period between the late 80s and the early 2000s can claim with a straight face that they saw the attractive, passing football that became synonymous with the Swansea Way during that period.

That being said, he needs to shut up and stop this incessant digging of his own grave. Keep your bleeding trap shut.

I’m one of the biggest Martinez fans but I still believe the Flynn tenure laid the foundations.

His acquisitions (including Martinez) plus his emphasis on attractive football planted the seed. I mean he brought in Tate, Leon, Robinson, Trundle for goodness sake. Insane legacy really.

Martinez took things to another level and brought in a buzz that we hadn’t seen at the swans since Toshack and then we had the golden period.

You’re absolutely right though the way some attribute the “passing football” to Swansea way drives me mad. 75-80% possession and hardly any shots on goal is dull, ineffective and the antithesis of that period.

I remember the joy of MOTD and how we were lauded. If we never see that again, at least those who witnessed it can remember with fondness.

Revert to long ball and we’ll be back in league 1/2 in record time. It’s that simple.

It’s impossible to play the ‘Swansea way’ that we witnessed from 2007 - 2014 because for some reason since 2017 (Carvahal?) we’ve abandoned the idea of playing with wingers and persist with 5-3-2 despite the lack of any competent wingbacks to give us an attacking outlet.
