The Traitors - BBC

Quite by chance I stumbled upon episode 1 last night and loved it. I've watched two further episodes tonight.

There's a lot of Twitter comment about this being a rip-off of various other programmes (Among Us? The Mole? A few others I can't remember).

Basically 20-odd twats have been shoved into a castle with the promise of winning a £120K prize while game host Claudia Winkleman sashays around them issuing instructions. The twats, bursting with bonhomie at the start of episode 1, soon unravel as they try to identify who among them are the traitors. Some people are so stupid my heart bleeds for them.

In a marvellous demonstration of xenophobia, it's the non-whites who thus far have come under the most suspicion

In the space of three episodes I've shouted at the telly, I've cringed, I've smiled, I've shaken my head in disbelief. Mostly I've laughed. It's not for everyone, this, and I may run out of enthusiasm for it, but right now I'm a fan. Episode 4 cannot arrive soon enough.

I’m sticking with it so far, it is a cringe fest though.

Regarding the race stuff, I don’t really agree with that. Haven’t even noticed it myself. Plus the first person they voted out was white.

I think the first one to be banished, while admittedly white, was 'different' in another way.

When the finger-pointing started all the non-whites were picked out, which statistically I felt seemed pretty bloody remarkable.

Part four is currently on, and fans of watching tossers come up with bizarre theories, tossers crying, tossers shouting certainly won't be disappointed.

There's a Swansea lady named Amanda on the show. She's been designated a traitor so has to be deceitful, manipulative, strategic. She does it all with real aplomb. Well done, gal.

Just last night I discovered there's a US version of the show. It's on I-player.

So far this has been superior to the British version. I had to steel myself throughout episode 1 as the viewers were introduced to 22 big personalities not to mention a quite theatrical host, but once I'd got over their sheer loudness I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Four episodes watched.

I didn't pay attention to this in December, but decides to give it a go last week. Smashed through it all in 3 days.

What a piece of tele, the best thing I've watched in years.

I was yelling at the screen at the end episode, especially when everything unravelled for the last remaining traitor.

Marvellous, I would love to apply but don't think I'd like to be a traitor, I'd relish being a faithful.

I'm not one for all these reality type shows; to me they are all the same just with different people who try to whip up the great unwashed viewing public into voting for them.

For me though The Traitors took the public voting stuff out of the equation and as a result it was purely down to the individuals to play the game the best way they could. I loved it and agree the Welsh lady was a star! Can't wait for it to return. I'm not sure I could stomach a US version though.

She played the right tactic up until she needed to change it, ironically she was a little bit Russell Martin

There's no way in this game you can sail through without defending yourself until the latter stages, that's why the other traitor benefited because he had to do that early on.

The incident where she contradicted herself was fatal.

But what annoyed me is the way the first traitor got eliminated, it was so clear that incident exposed 2 of them, the accusation and vote came out of nowhere, they could have got 2 of them right there.

All easy to say when watching the tele of course

I really liked it. I do wonder if instead of calling them traitors, there was a red team and a blue team and you had to find the people in the blue team, would they get so emotional.
Traitors is quite a powerful label to give someone. Clever.

I hear you brother :D

But trust me. I was expecting it to be awful but fair play to the yanks. They've done a top job on this.

Started off hating it, especially Winkelman's ridiculous OTT attempts at dramatic pronouncements. Wifey loved it from the start and I ended up watching every episode with her because 'I had nothing else to do'

If it would stay like that it would be fine, but now it's popular we'll get interviews with the people kicked out and lots more bling and copying any Yankee arsery. It'll be another Strictly/I'm a Celebrity/Big Brother egofest.

Yeah, have to say that we ended up watching it all and quite enjoyed it in the end. The ending was pretty intense.

I do find Winkleman awful though.

Waiting for the celebrity version to be announced… :D
