The Women's Ashes

I’m asking a fair question.

Why is watching women’s cricket of interest?

The drama of “ashes” cricket is seeing the likes of Johnson bowling 95mph bouncers on a sun baked track.

I just can’t comprehend watching a much inferior product. That’s my point.

I can sort of understand if you enjoy the “hundred” as that isn’t really cricket. But genuine test cricket I’m lost.

Surely you must see where I’m coming from? The drama is based on the “edge” and not just the athleticism but the hard edged professionalism. You won’t see the blokes laughing after dropping catches.

I know you think this is sexist. It isn’t. I simply don’t understand as fan of test cricket how you’d be interested in this series.

It's not that long ago that people packed out stadiums to watch rugby players who spent more time at the bar than training. People still pack out darts venues watching 'sportsmen' who look like they'll be dead of a heart attack in a few years. So I don't think watching sport is all about people loving athleticism and hard edged professionalism.

Nah we don’t care really we’re just talking about it to look cool and inclusive on the internet.

Stupid fucking question.
Well then answer the question.

Why? Is it because you love cricket so much you’d watch youth cricket, amateur leagues etc? So standard isn’t really the issue more the love of ball on willow?

That I can give you. But to truly enjoy the spectacle hmm

This is the pinnacle of women’s international cricket and it involves our home nation. I will pay far more attention to this than I will to the mediocrity of our domestic men’s Hundred.

Okay thanks, it’s going back to love of the game and patriotism. I can understand that.

I watched some of it and enjoyed it and was engaged by it. I thought the skill levels were quite high compared to what I expected. The reason I tuned in and kept watching was that it meant everything to the players. Each and every one was giving their all on a fair and level playing field and the best in their class. I think there's a bowler that can chuck 'em at 80mph now too, that's amazing to me.

Anything that promotes women to play sport and aspire to be the best I'm 100% behind. When I think of the opportunities my sisters were denied by superior male patronising arseholery, including me, it makes me sad. Anyone is free not to watch, but anyone belittling it or pretending people are just being 'woke' watching it is pretty churlish.
