The Women's Ashes

I’m asking a fair question.

Why is watching women’s cricket of interest?

The drama of “ashes” cricket is seeing the likes of Johnson bowling 95mph bouncers on a sun baked track.

I just can’t comprehend watching a much inferior product. That’s my point.

I can sort of understand if you enjoy the “hundred” as that isn’t really cricket. But genuine test cricket I’m lost.

Surely you must see where I’m coming from? The drama is based on the “edge” and not just the athleticism but the hard edged professionalism. You won’t see the blokes laughing after dropping catches.

I know you think this is sexist. It isn’t. I simply don’t understand as fan of test cricket how you’d be interested in this series.

It's not that long ago that people packed out stadiums to watch rugby players who spent more time at the bar than training. People still pack out darts venues watching 'sportsmen' who look like they'll be dead of a heart attack in a few years. So I don't think watching sport is all about people loving athleticism and hard edged professionalism.

Nah we don’t care really we’re just talking about it to look cool and inclusive on the internet.

Stupid fucking question.
Well then answer the question.

Why? Is it because you love cricket so much you’d watch youth cricket, amateur leagues etc? So standard isn’t really the issue more the love of ball on willow?

That I can give you. But to truly enjoy the spectacle hmm

This is the pinnacle of women’s international cricket and it involves our home nation. I will pay far more attention to this than I will to the mediocrity of our domestic men’s Hundred.

Okay thanks, it’s going back to love of the game and patriotism. I can understand that.

I watched some of it and enjoyed it and was engaged by it. I thought the skill levels were high compared to what I expected (which shows my hard coded bias all by itself). The reason I tuned in and kept watching was that it meant everything to the players. Each and every one was giving their all on a fair and level playing field and is the best in their class. I think there's a bowler that can chuck 'em at 80mph now too, that's amazing to me.

Anything that promotes women to play sport and aspire to be the best I'm 100% behind. When I think of the opportunities my sisters were denied by superior male patronising arseholery, including me, it makes me sad. Anyone is free not to watch, but anyone belittling it or pretending people are just being 'woke' watching it is pretty churlish.

I think this is a fair post but I’m still convinced there is truth to what I say.

I think very so called woke people do tend to follow the script.

It’s a cliche but it’s true, I personally really enjoy women’s tennis because I think at its best it is different but in a good way. It’s more about guile for instance, this has changed in recent times but not for the better imo.

I might be wrong and the standard bearers of the woke on this board might really love it and that’s fair enough but I do think there is a lot of sanctimonious nonsense.

Anyway, I was simply intrigued. Thanks for your thoughts. Enjoy the cricket.

Always finding it amusing when certain people have to tell the world how outraged they are when women play sport.

If you don't like don't watch. There's no need to bore the rest of us.

Ps.
You'll love this 😍

You see, that’s the problem you’ve instantly jumped to conclusions.

I think they’re all really good presenters. You are epitomising what I’ve just said.

“amusing when certain people have to tell the world how outraged they are when women play sport.”

At what point in this thread have you jumped to that conclusion? But that’s what you guys do.

I think it’s brilliant women’s sport is gaining traction, that’s fantastic for the future of the country in terms of health for one.

My word why do I bother with this forum there’s some good posters on here but a lot struggle to understand debate and nuance. Pointless. Send me an emoji as a response.

Plenty of other sites that share the same views as yourself.

I'm sure you'll fit in really well with the other bigots.

I enjoy watching sport. Cricket especially. It doesn’t matter to me who’s playing, what sex or gender they are, I enjoy watching sport. I never watched women’s sport years ago because it was never on the telly. Now it is. If you think that’s sanctimonious and “woke” then I can help you no further.

Sums it up. You don’t have the intellect do you?
Your first post in this thread.

"Genuinely to the people on this thread, do you actually care? Honestly?

The standard is shocking. I just don’t understand why you’d want to watch this beyond getting progressive points."

Your last post in this thread.

"I think it’s brilliant women’s sport is gaining traction, that’s fantastic for the future of the country in terms of health for one."

Make your mind up ffs 😂
