Thoughts on Martin's gameplan

He has a gameplan?

You took the words out of my mouth.

(Note for self...Snooze, you lose! :D )

Not sure what that has to do with my question to be honest?

If the club selling a player for a big profit is something to trumpet the manager for, then the game really has gone as they say.

If giving a manager £1m means getting over £10m a season after then it’s a no brainer.

Winter made clear we are a trading club.

Max, I'll support the team as I have always done, will never boo them or him.

But, he doesn't help himself, I've got no respect for him, you have to earn that.

Was he promised things? What was he promised? I saw a quote from Winter, saying something about getting things done early in the window, but if the players are not available for the coin we've got, or other clubs are offering us less money than we want for other, what can we do? I'd rather we don't panic and place the club in danger in order for Winter or Russ to save face.

Don't get me wrong, it's always disappointing when we don't get players in but I've also zero confidence in Russ getting what we need and then playing them where they are needed. He's sucked the joy out of it for me.

I wouldn't give any money to Martin to waste if it were my money. I'd get a plan together for June (January is where you only get overpriced garbage or cast offs) and tell him if we're not in the play offs with what we have, he's toast.

Cooper sucked all the joy out of me. This punter is just pissing on the remaining dried husk.

I just can't see them getting rid myself, he may walk though, especially after this window, it happened with both Copper and Potter, after they both felt that they weren't getting the support they wanted.

Max, one thing you will never hear me say is that we deserve to be in this league of the prem, never. But I will keep on that we have a half decent team here at the moment, but they are not being allowed to play, that is one of my biggest issues with him.

What do you mean we couldn't attract a manager after Cooper left? Of course we could, and always will as well. They will be queueing up to take charge down here, same as every other professional club in the land.

Agree that people don't appreciate what Cooper done here, he had a fantastic record, and has kept that going with Forest as well.

Well, the evidence is there, even a little known Coach Eustace turned us down and there was at least one manager who said they weren't interested there was no queue even the phone box was empty. Mun!

A manager turning us down doesn’t mean nobody was interested.

If giving a manager £1m means he would turn it into £10m every time, they’d all be doing it. I’ll look forward to the £20m we’ll get for Fisher and Darling.

We have ALWAYS been a trading club, as are the majority of professionals football teams.

But again, if we are judging a manager on a single transfer, then we may as well get a trader in from the stock exchange.

NJ, I'll leave it there now, we both want the same, but we're both squabbling over the same bone.

I'll leave you have the last word

You asked if we should trust him with money, the answer is yes, as the Downes deal shows, and then what if moment if he had been backed with the O’Reilly transfer, who was ready to sign.

Fisher looks to be a blip but I’m certain we’ll make heavy money on darling, bookmark it.

Darling has some inspired moments but also has more than enough catastrophic ones although maybe the catastrophic ones are down to how our defenders are told to play. Most of the time he's nothing special IMO, but, who knows, maybe a different manager can get more out of him. What's your definition of 'heavy money'? Wouldn't say he's worth much more than we paid for him atm.

I think Darling absolutely has ability but I can't see any defender ever going for decent money whilst Martin is our manager.

It's a bit like buying a defender from Bob Bradley.

Atleast quadruple our money.

Yep. Martin has demonstrated precisely zero defensive coaching ability thus far. It's not really a shock if Darling's development has stalled.

Interesting debate this, and I can see both sides.

To start with, Martin isn't going anywhere for a while - unless someone else comes in for him (which is unlikely too, Norwich was the most likely). The Americans won't sack him and pay him off&he won't walk away from a potential pay off. Managers do not resign these days.

I can understand people not wanting Martin in control of transfers / giving him money to spend...but what are the alternatives?

-We spend nothing despite us being 3 points off the play offs and possessing a squad short on depth and numbers?

-The club spends money on players sourced by someone else at the club? I believe we do have a recruitment guy currently (don't know his name), but do we know what his track record is like? And the obvious question...Will Martin play who that person / the club buys? We really don't want another Ogbeta / Burns debacle.

I don't know the right answer.
