You say end the war at all costs. Let's say in some weird alternate universe, Wales is Ukraine and England is Russia (I'm aware this is a ludicrous comparison, but it's a simple one). England has invaded Wales and now controls all of the south of Wales. So Swansea has been bombed into rubble, friends and family are dead, we've all had to enlist or flee, and our homes are either destroyed or in the hands of the invaders.
Now through all this, our allies have been providing us with help in the form of money and weapons, although they won't go further than that as they don't want to piss off the English invaders enough to escalate the conflict. Let's say in this weird alternate universe that Brazil is one of the most powerful countries in the world. They have a contentious history with England but have been allies of Wales for a long time. They elect a new leader and his first involvement in the conflict is to speak with the Prime Minister of England and say he wants to end the conflict, making it clear that in order to do so, we'll have to agree that England will now control all the territory they've taken so far. So the Brazilian leader has decided to follow the course of appeasement and will reassure us that of course the English will never look to take any more of our territory.
Meanwhile, we have lost everything and are (ironically) likely to have migrated to another country and are dependent on them to help us build some kind of new life in a strange new country.
In this scenario, would you still think that ending the war in Wales at all costs is a good idea?
TL;DR: If we were the Ukrainians, you'd almost certainly feel very different about Trump.
