Vipotnik - Top Scorer (Championship)

No doubt. He's vastly improved many aspects of his play under Matos. And, I must give the young man credit, he seems mentally tough as well.

I just wonder if Matos will ultimately want someone more suited to the high press, especially if a suitor comes and waves £15m in our face.

I'm not necessarily saying we should sell him, but you know how it is.
I get the feeling that Matos would prefer a striker in the Diego Costa mould

An absolute pest both competing for balls and pressing, can link play and hold up the ball and clinical with the few chances he gets. Very very difficult to find a player who fits that profile that doesn't cost 10+ million though

I agree with you but I still thought that he wasn’t that good. Like many others also I would argue.
I felt there was always a player in there, we saw a couple of goals from him last season that showed that he could kick the ball hard enough that you would believe that it owed him money. He showed a number of glimpses, the equalizer against Leeds, his goal against I believe it was Derby (a volley that was past the keeper before he could even put his arms up)

Also despite 42 appearances the reality is that there were only 2000 minutes over those appearances which was about 47 minutes per game on average (basically one half of football including stoppage time). He didn't have consistent game time either which combined with a lack of pre season meant he took an extremely long time to get match fit and sharp.

It was impossible for him to be given a fair assessment last season

Agreed and I do wonder if we might be seeing the same thing with Idah this season.
It was Vipotnik’s seeming lack of pressing and work-rate along with desire to get into the box that frustrated a little last year…this is basically the same issue many have with Idah.

Let’s hope we see the same uptick from him next season 👍

On the subject of Piroe vs. VIP: Piroe wasn’t the fastest player also, but he knew how to create scoring chances for himself and to put the ball wherever he wanted to. VIP lacks a little in that regard but with two cannons, left and right, he is doing fine, and His heading is also better than Piroe’s. Overall, they are both top strikers for this level.

Always thought Piroe contributed more when he played as a second striker. When we asked him to lead the line he often looked lost for long periods of the game, but his natural ability still saw him amongst the goals by conjuring something out of very little.

Vipi doesn't have the type of game on the ball that Piroe did, but is a much better option to lead the line.

Shame we can't get them both.

Vipotnik and Piroe would be a terrifying front two
Piroe had to learn to add pressing and leading the line to his game at Leeds
