Not a great performance by any means but considering the amount of players missing any win today was a good one. A shame that the Czechs aren’t doing us a favour against Belgium, our chances of catching them now will rely on us winning the rest of our matches which isn’t happening.

Belgium were always going to win this group and we are playing for second.

Missed the game, it's a weakened team and I’d take the 3 points everyday of the week, but I am not convinced about the Coaching team.

Realistically we are, but since we’re already guaranteed the playoff from the nations league there’s not a lot of benefit to finishing second. Winning the group is the only thing that matters.

Bale got the goals ... two he did nothing for and the third was down to Harris, James and a very tired defence. OK they all count but be honest he was as poor as any this afternoon.

Well you're a real glass half empty type aren't you? ;)

Penalties still have to be scored and Wales had missed their previous 3, including Bale at the Euros. Plus Dan hardly put the third on a plate for him did he? The ball was behind Bale and no-one else in the team would have been able to score that, even with the keepers weak effort.

Considering we stole a win despite playing crap, not having a real manager in place, losing 13 players and having to go through the travel nightmare, would it be too much to ask for some positivity? If we beat Estonia as we should, we pile the pressure on the Czechs for when we play them away. As others have said, we were always playing for 2nd place in this group. If we take anything from Belgium at home it's a massive bonus.

I forgot about that. It's a real mess, but looking at it, it seems to be that we're guaranteed a spot as long as two of France, Belgium, Italy and Spain don't finish lower than 2nd in their Qualifying Groups. Does that sound right?

Even so, I'm guessing we'd be unseeded if we qualified that way. Plus if we qualify for the Playoffs by finishing 2nd in the Qualifiers, then a theoretically weaker team would get the Nations League qualifying place and we may then play them?

On another note, I've noticed that Hungary's ban on fans at matches wasn't applied in the qualifiers as it was a ban delivered by UEFA and the qualifiers are run by FIFA. In the case, why was Harry Wilson's suspension from the Denmark game applied to yesterday's game with Belarus? It's almost as if FIFA made up the rule regarding the Hungary fans so they didn't lose out on revenue. Surely not...

That sounds about right! It's two teams from the nations league and we're the fifth highest, but the four above us will almost definitely qualify. I don't really like the NL being used for qualifying too, it makes everything very messy and complicated.

I forgot about the NL teams being the away teams in the playoffs so yeah you're right it would be good to be seeded and get a home semi final. Win Wednesday and we go above the Czechs with a game in hand.

Cool. Is he a bit rusty though?

Probably, but looking at the defence on Sunday he should walk back into the team.

Completely agree that it's turned a relatively simple qualification system into a mess. I see it's not a 2-legged Playoff anymore either, it's not some kind of mini-tournament! Farcical move to play more games to make more money.

If we win Wednesday we really put the pressure on the Czechs over there. They'd really need a win and increase our chances of snatching the three points ourselves on the counter-attack. It seems a bit ridiculous to suggest after yesterday's struggles, but if we win the next 4 games, we'd face Belgium at home with the potential of a win giving us top spot in the group. Dare to dream and all that!

On the flipside, if we lose to the Czechs we'll almost certainly need at least a point against Belgium (and better goal difference than the Czechs) to get 2nd place.

This.

I'd probably drop Mepham myself, despite Lawrence dropping a bollock yesterday. Mepham just looks out of his depth at international level, but perhaps Lawrence could be saved with a better player alongside him.

When you say "out of his depth at international level", do you mean Welsh international level? Because from what I've seen some of the lads who play for Ammanford and Haverfordwest would look half decent in a Welsh shirt.
