Not saying I'm for or against independence.

But are the two definitely linked? There's several examples of teams from one independent nation playing in another country's league.

Monaco - France
Lots of Liechtenstein teams - Switzerland
Toronto - USA

Would TNS be removed from the WPL? Would be Berwick be removed from the Scottish league if they gained independence?

Neither Monaco or Leichtenstein have domestic leagues.

If Wales were independent, there's not a chance on Earth Swansea would be allowed to remain in the English system.

Potentially, but technically we shouldn't really have our own national team either. Liechtenstein as you say doesn't have a league (it must do at some level) but does have a national team.

My point was football doesn't always follow the geopolitical reality.

Not a big fan of being I dependant myself.

The questions I would ask about independence and regards to Welsf football teams in the English system.
Would we still be allowed to play in the system?
Are you willing to take the chance that we might or might not be allowed to stay in the league?

If Welsh clubs were thrown out of the system then it would have a massive knock on Welsh sport and in turn a huge knock to Wales itself.

Is it worth being in dependant just to say that we are our own country in our own right!? It will fuel certain campaigners ego for a while but what then after.

There could come a time when Scotland and Wales are independent and back in the EU
I think we wouldn't be allowed in the English League in that event
They could form a Celtic league with Scotland and Ireland , similar to the Rugby
Its a long way off anyway

Yeah and we will prosper on selling our main assets

I'd take the chance in a heartbeat.

This depends on where the funding has come from.
If the funding is for National League members then Wrexham have a very strong case to call 'foul'.
If it is a Government funded package for English clubs only then the Welsh Assembly should be pursued for equal funding.
If the WA deem it is not possible then they should pursue a similar package from Westminster for Welsh clubs.
Independence is still some way off in Wales although I am becoming more in favour of it with the collapse of socialism in the UK.

Why would being independent make any difference?

You hope.

There's little chance that the FA would allow a foreign team to remain within its structure, especially a foreign team from a country with its own league and national side. That's without factoring in the pressure that would come from the Welsh authorities to join their system and add credibility to it. After all, it wouldn't be the first time that clubs in the English system were penalised for deciding that the LoW was a waste of their time would it?

It took years to earn the right to carry on as they were before, and that's with a Wales inside the UK.
