We're in a relegation battle - pros and cons of booing the players

Hopefully one or two additions may come in the January transfer market. But let's not assume that - or that they will be any good.

But before and after then, we are likely stuck with what we've got in terms of the Manager and the players.

So is there any point in booing the players if we are losing . There's enough feedback for them with loud crowd groans for a stupid hospital sideways pass for example. I never boo but a groan I can't stop - pure instinct.

Booing on top is counter - productive I reckon. There are those who will lose confidence even further. And there are those who will think - f**k it, I'm on a contract, I'm getting paid.. and maybe will try less.

So in this relegation battle, what is there to gain by booing ? As compared to actual support... or in the "middle", silent frustration.

And yes, it is a two way thing... we all like to see effort, passion and getting stuck in, even if the football is a bit "meh". And let's not get on their backs either for at least trying something in a forward direction () but it doesn't come off.

Who knows, the players might respond to us (besides any positive chanting).

But booing - never going to work with half a relegation season left.

I’m not sure any player/team has evert benefitted from being booed during the game. I certainly don’t think it would improve my performance or productivity at work

Occasionally it might have resulted in an improved performance in the second half when it happens at half time, but that’s as much to do with what happens in the 15 minutes in the dressing room.

What definitely does have an impact on our team, the opposition and the referee is a positive home crowd and a good atmosphere. You only have to see the Sunderland game yesterday to see proof of that.

Don’t get me wrong it’s hard to turn round the current apathy, especially with performance levels and results, but ‘we’ do have our part to play over the remainder of the season and, as I mentioned in another post earlier, in the next 2 games in particular.

If we had every player putting 100% in to every performance and leaving everything out on the pitch, I believe the atmosphere would be one of support and getting behind the team, win, lose or draw.

At the moment all we are seeing is minimal effort and a lot of finger pointing from a lot of them.

The players deserve what they put in.

Fans are not asking much - run yourself into the ground for 90 mins and not 20, would be a fine start. If you think you can just turn up and knock off a quarter of the way into every game then you are going to get booed.

As you can probably tell, I've never been one for shifting blame onto the fans. I think it's cowardly and pathetic. (And that's not aimed at you btw, it's aimed at the players). We pay their wages. They've got no right to try and make us part of the problem. They need to grow up and grow a pair. There are 15,000 people in that stadium every game who would kill to be in their privileged position.

And what does galvanise a crowd is a crunching passionate tackle, winning a 40:60 ball. Only need a few of those to get a roar. Message please to the Manager and players. Especially Franco I'm afraid, looking at that continental rolling about the floor yesterday

What I have done is shout a lot of sweary words at the players on a regular basis.

There was a lot of that by a group at the end of the game as the players came towards the fans.
Tymon came first and took the brunt and just stood taking it.
Others seemed to see and didn't come very close.
