Having guessed correctly 17 times running i'm not sure its possible to fail if you have even a basic grasp of English.

There's a slim chance. A mate of mine has failed once.

Let's say you establish in three turns that the word is _IGHT.

You've then got three pops at seven possibles. Even if you've already eliminated a couple of them you could run out of turns before finding the word.
