Yates

He runs like he's wearing lead boots.

He is very weak with his back to goal, regularly bullied off the ball.

He doesn't drop off into pockets of space to receive the ball to either link play or turn and face the goal.

He's not very good in the air.

From what I can see the only thing going for him is that he can sniff out poachers goals in the 6 yard box.

Sorry, but that sole redeeming feature is nowhere near enough. Not at this level anyway.

Total waste of money and we're not exactly a cash rich club.

He's not a hold up player
He's not on the shoulder player

He's a box player, but we don't create an awful lot, but he is our top scorer, and our top goal threat is Patino, who plays on the bench mostly, even Yates is summoned to the bench an all.. Paterson just seems like he wants to take his pay cheque and sail off into the sunset.. hopefully Bolasie will add something, and Cooper seems to be forgotten.. Duff doesn't want to build consistency.. he's a bit like Potter, tinkering with things, except he doesn't do it in-game situations.. it's more out of habit.. he's trying to get a tune out of players who have simply downed tools.. they're comfortable with their lot, Fulton, Grimes, Paterson, Naughton, Allen, Lowe.. I'd ship them all out at seasons end.. get players who are ambitious and want to compete.. sometimes you've got to gamble, I'd rather at least try and get relegated to League one, than not try at all and be content with midtable obscurity.. the older guard will probably get us a few wins to consolidate our position.. but as our owners know too well, sometimes you've got to take risks, it might be a burning disaster, but as others have noted, we're not going anywhere unless something changes, responsibility belongs to the players and they know that

I'll hold my hands up now, he's offers very little and a complete waste of 2.5 million.

And whilst we're at it, Josh Tymon, another couple of million spunked away.
Crazy money for both.

Glad to hear it, you had a different view 6 weeks ago when i posted the original topic about him in late October.

Who are you btw?

I've put my original post up to which you put several replies. I'm a season ticket holder in the east stand, been watching the Swans since 1965 and travelled away with them for over 45 years.

Cullen can match what Yates can do.

Oooh, miaow

🤣🤣🤣🤣

That’s what I call damning with faint praise.

The thing about Yates is he rarely even gets in good positions in the box - see when Lowe was free to cross from a few yards out…Yates went behind the defender instead of just pulling away to give Lowe an easy option and himself a tap in. That one on one that he should have had was laughable. I hope to God he comes good, but he looks total cack so far.

To be fair, taking huge risks in summer, shipping out a load and shipping a load in, in so doing trying to burn all traces of the previous coach, is exactly what we have done, and what has landed us in the mess we're in now.

As I've said previously, the rational response to finishing 10th last season should have been "ok, we're definitely on the up, but we fell a little bit short. What can we do to improve where we're weak, while keeping what's good?"

Instead we threw the baby out with the bathwater, we ripped it all up and started again. Crackers.

That sort of approach can work for mega bucks teams, but not on our sort of budgets. It is no way to run a football club of our size. You need stability, you need consistency, you need to take your time and build incrementally.

We're stuck in a doom loop with these owners where every managerial change is like pressing the nuclear button.

I do feel for Yates, he has played in a front 2 his whole career. Thing is we havent been playing to his strengths and unless we do we would never get a tune out of him, as a result right now his confidence is shot and comparing that to a similar chance he had at the start of the season in preseason which he put away you can see that.

Our formation has always thrived with a Jason Scotland or a Wilfried Bony who can hold up the play and then release others while also knowing how to finish off the one chance that might come their way in the game. We look like we have that in Kukharevych and I desperately hope he sees some game time when he gets back from injury.

Yates is utter utter dross.

1 in 4 at this level and 1 in 3.something for us.

Decent enough if you’re offering something else in the games you’re not scoring in but he may as well not have been on the pitch in the games he hasn’t scored in.

Serious question though. What are his strengths?
