Yates

How are people expecting us to play 2 up top? Not knocking it, genuinely curious. Do we go back to 3 at the back? Play 442 (midfield is too light imo) or play a more narrow diamond midfield and sacrifice width?

Well, we need to do somin different from what we are currently doing, because what we are doing isn't working, put two in there and let Pato roam behind or as you suggest play a 442.

Posing after he scored today. I thought it was embarrassing. He has been rubbish for the majority of the season and he is posing as if he has just proved a point to shut the Swans fans up. You have proved nothing! You have deserved your critics because your performances have not been good enough.

I said last week that with Yannick crossing balls for fun, that'll be the lifeline for Yates.

What an odd reaction to our #9 who always busts a gut for the Swans and scored our winning goal today.

Are you that weirdo RichardO?

One goal in three game striker at this level... I'll take it

I thought that was because he played for Rotherham? Muted celebration and all that shit.

Always busts a gut? Are you serious? He's been poor. Yes he scored the winner today but posing as if he has just silenced his critics? Do me a favour. This is a four page thread where the majority of posters have critized him. Yet, you say he always busts a gut. You must be in the minority.

If that is the case then I am happy to hold my hands up and apologise.

No idea to be honest but I hadn't really considered that anyone would be daft enough to irritate their own fanbase.

That’ll teach you to think before you post. And to be honest like another poster mentioned you’re criticizing a player whose goal has just won the game for us, not the sort of thing a Swans fan should be posting about our match winner (no matter how many other posters have influenced you how to think about him).

I could go in to the obvious reason why Yates hasn’t been as successful (as I’m sure he’d like to have been during his time here) - for one the lack of passes in behind the back four that players like him thrive on (like the one which he put away yesterday to give us the three points).

But it’s your right to be critical like all those other posters you’re reading if that makes you feel better.

Hang on though. One goal doesn't make him what we need either. Passes behind the back four? You're kidding? He has zero pace to get behind anyone. Huddersfield gave him a pass behind their own back four and he was laughable. He also takes up terrible positions in the middle right behind defenders when crosses come in and he's too small to outjump anyone. He has, however, still scored goals, and yesterdays was vital and a cracking finish, but he needs to contribute more. He may be ok, he may not be, we don't know yet, but he hasn't shown enough to be an automatic first choice. Whether that's us or him is a question that needs to be resolved by the next taxi off the rank in the hot seat.

He’s not going to beat anyone in the air so a cross like yesterday or a ball through the channels to run on to is much more his game .
He’s got a goal every three to three and a half games for us without much service and coming from the league below that’s not too bad a return.

Richard doesn’t understand that and even though Yates just won us the game he still can’t wait to have a dig at him (as the majority of posters have indicated to Richard that it’s ok to do). I just think that’s kinda sh*t to be honest.
The guy could at least think for himself.

100% with you that people should make up their own minds and not spout received opinions. In the spirit of critical evaluation I should admit I've never seen Yates live, and am going from the basis that I've seen all his minutes on television. He could be making brilliant runs off screen for I know and simply not getting a pass. Now that wouldn't surprise me as most of our players can't see or pick a pass at the right time and have hesitation and caution on the ball hard coded.

I don't blame Yates. To be fair to him he works very hard and puts a shift in every time. He could probably be better served by a team with pace in it.
He's not quick enough or technically good enough to be very effective in the Championship. Half a dozen goals so far is about as good as we could expect from him. I blame those who scouted him and decided to pay what they did for him.
