Went to Portugal for the day on Monday this week and photographed this absolutely stunning Swallowtail butterfly. Never seen one before.
We're lucky enough to see a lot of these in the US Southeast, The most striking is the Zebra Swallowtail. Their primary (mabye only?) host plant is the Paw Paw, a slightly odd tropical-ish fruit tree that produces a mango/banana type of fruit. I think it's the only tropical fruit tree native to the US. We have a lot of them growing in the woodland edge at the bottom of our garden, so we're lucky enough to see a lot of these chaps flying around.

Took this in 2012 in Kefalonia, I think it’s a similar type. I took a lot of photos but it wouldn’t keep still for very long, I’m sure it was doing it on purpose.
