Went to Portugal for the day on Monday this week and photographed this absolutely stunning Swallowtail butterfly. Never seen one before.

Went to Portugal for the day on Monday this week and photographed this absolutely stunning Swallowtail butterfly. Never seen one before.

We're lucky enough to see a lot of these in the US Southeast, The most striking is the Zebra Swallowtail. Their primary (mabye only?) host plant is the Paw Paw, a slightly odd tropical-ish fruit tree that produces a mango/banana type of fruit. I think it's the only tropical fruit tree native to the US. We have a lot of them growing in the woodland edge at the bottom of our garden, so we're lucky enough to see a lot of these chaps flying around.
