Bobby Wales To Sign

Know very little about this lad but did read a few weeks ago that a number of clubs were in for him.

I get Kyle Joseph vibes with it mind.

Wow tnow that is one hell of a nice surpirse. Wasnt expecting much re transfer until June 14th

Played 27 on loan with alloa in scottish league 1 and 23 times for KIlmarnock in scottish premiere. Scored 3 for Killie but got 12 in 27 for Alloa. Sheehan has told him he goes into the first team not U21's. Only 19 yrs of age. 20 in June

"
Kilmarnock teenager Bobby Wales is an "elite striker" who should be fast-tracked into the Scotland squad along with Hearts forward James Wilson.

That's the view of Scottish coach and football analyst John Walker, "
That John Walker quote sounds very promising.

Amazed to see us sign someone so early! Already a first teamer but primarily for the future/backup I guess, but an interesting move.

His stats are modest so I guess this move, should it materialise, is more down to video analysis and scouting than data. Although there may be data not available in the public domain that indicates his capabilities.
Our academy manager spent 17 years with Aberdeen so im guessing he has some contacts in the Scottish game, 300k seems a bit of a punt when you take into account any decent young talent from other Scottish sides usually get hoovered up by Celtic or Rangers, but good luck to the lad.

If he has been snapped up to be fast tracked to the first team then that doesn't bode well for Kuharevych or Yates and to a lesser extent one of Cullen or Vipotnik

We'll probably be looking to move the first two on anyway.

Cullen clearly can't play as a lone striker, so hopefully he's more likely to be competition for Vipi.

Agree with all of the above if I am being honest

Cullen's biggest strength is his instinctive finishing, he is great at arriving late into the box and applying first time finishes. None of that however is useful for a lone striker where the main expectation is the ability to press hard to help force mistakes from the opposition defenders, fight hard to retain possession and hold up the ball to bring others into play and to occasionally craft opportunities out of nothing for yourself.

Cullen would do well playing as a 2nd striker alongside a target man and to a lesser degree as a number 10, but as a lone striker he lacks all of the attributes needed to thrive in the role.

In an ideal world everything aligns: data, video analysis and scouting. But in those instances the chances are we would lose out to better resources teams. The hope here is that he has potential that is yet to be fulfilled. Given he's still only 20 that may well be the case.

I understand the need to get players in young, so that the player trading model can deliver value for money, but I hope we're not exclusively looking at promising youngsters.

One glaring problem this season has been our finishing. Our 48 goals is 8 below our expected tally. Only Luton have a more profligate record. Eom has an expected goals tally of 6 but has only scored 2, Bianchini 4.4 Vs 3, Vipotnik 9.6 Vs 7, Ronald 3.5 Vs 1. Only Cullen has out performed his 8.8 xG with 10. His 14 goals this season compared to an xG of 10.5. Last season he scored 21 against an xG of 14.3. Clinical.

We need to sign players we can be confident will score with the opportunities they get. I have no problem with signing the likes of Wales for the future, but we also need players who can hit the ground running. I would be happier if we were to sign the likes of Will Evans as well, who is probably available for 500-700k.
