Harry Darling …

No, we were rubbish in 2024 an all, Darling was playing, in fact we were rubbish all through Williams tenure.. I didn't say he was crap, just an ordinary CB at this level, just like Grimes was ordinary at this level.. no PL teams will come in for Darling this summer, because defensively he's got a ricket in him.. the frustrating part about him is he's aggressive inside the oppositions penalty area, but he's weak as piss in his own box defending, it's odd
A huge portion of that has to do with the cluelessness of the manager who's tactics were leaving the defenders and the goalkeeper hopelessly exposed week in week out.

No one is advocating to pay him £35k a week, that would be beyond our budget for any player even Darling or O'Brien. However since Sheehan took over in 12 games (he has played in 9 of those) he has helped us to keep 7 clean sheets and scored 3 goals. What more do you want from a centre half?

No way is Darling work £35k a week, half of that is stretching it. That said, he’s not the first CB in recent times to have his game negatively influenced by the tactics imposed on him.

Excellent with the ball, and 5 goals and 3 assists is an impressive tally. 7.14 average Fotmob rating, second only to Cabango (7.17), puts him in the top 15 per cent or so in the Championship. However, his defending has been average at best. He simply switches off at times, and fails to make the sort of last ditch challenges that Cabango thrives on. But that hasn't been the case under Sheehan, so it would be a shame to lose him at the point where he may be maturing into an all rounder. I'm sure we will be offering a competitive but realistic wage, we simply can't afford to break the wage structure.

I would like to see Darling stay. Yes he's had a good few howlers but he really improved and got back to his near best under Sheehan.

He's a very competent all rounder and has a good bit if leadership, presence and grunt about him.

For me, he's one of the better centre backs we have had in recent times.

He’s gone, had it confirmed from a very very good source.

Explains all the shit in last few weeks?

Edit: Seems he’s a bit miffed with the contract situation, so unless something MASSIVE changes, then he is gone.

I felt it was all off. Him being injured in hotel and then missing awards. Clearly didn't want to risk chances of finding new club. Oh well, let's rebuild and recruit for the defense. Not sure how much more current owners can do.

The last couple of games have shown how much we miss him defensively.

We’re not conceding some of those goals today with him playing.

Many say he’s not worth the £25-30k a week, but to sign anyone near his ability will probably cost £1 million+ plus the wages.

But, I think he’s gone.

I thought that Delcroix today was an accident waiting to happen every time play came near him. Every single one of their goals originated from down our left and its no coincidence, the number of times he rushed out and got caught out selling himself leaving Cabango in a 2v1 situations or giving away a pointless free kick giving them opportunities to load the box for a set piece was simply unacceptable from a schoolboy level let alone a professional footballer playing in the Championship.

I completely agree that we wouldn't have given up any of those goals if Harry had been playing.

Think H is seeking a significant signing on fee

He looked like he’d had a nasty knee injury at the end today. Really struggling to walk and didn’t look well

Delcroix looked completely lost when their second went in

In the buildup to the corner he got sucked in trying to be far too tight to a player and got turned (not for the first time) and Cabango was left having to defend that cross 2v1. Then with the corner itself he was ball watching on the six yard line rather than defending his goal line or keeping the player who scored from being able to run onto the ball
