Pretty obvious we're interested in McBurnie, but equally clear we won't sign him (and probably not any other striker) until we've shifted one, if not more, of the existing bunch. We're likely to miss out to Hull as a consequence. If we were to sign a striker now it would clearly weaken our hand when it comes to selling the likes of Yates, as we would be desperate to offload. So, I don't expect us to sign a striker, if at all, until much later in the window.

Selles is set to become manager with Sheffield United, Rob Edwards manager of Boro. That improves our chances.

It's all getting a bit silly now and this wow signing hasn't helped the situation.

The window is running along nicely but some seem to be making it out to be an absolute masterstroke! For me it's just highlights how bad our previous windows have been that has had people calling this window a great window so far.
It's a lot better and looking a lot more organised which isn't something to get that carried away with presently.

There is still a lot of work to be done both in and out.

All said and done, one thing the club have done is show a pro active approach to the window that has got the place feeling a bit more excited.....and is much needed.

I think the key difference between that window and this one is the profile of player we are picking up, they seem well rounded with a good mix of attributes. Thinking back to that summer, most of the players were too one dimensional for the championship with the best being Ginnelly who was never fit. That obviously excludes Jamal Lowe. The squad for that season was easily the worst we’ve had since relegation for me. I just get the sense that this summers players are of better quality. Hope I’m not wrong!

Totally agree and agree again with your comment regards the proof of a window.
It hasn't taken a lot to give fans more excitement, fans have been saying for years they wanted to see a pro active board and get signings done early....this board have. You don't need to be special to do this just have the drive and planning to do so.

I'm a lot more enthused about things but am certainly not letting my side of caution get away from me......a lot of work still to be done(sorry for repeating) with the bust period about to kick in.

If the DMs available on a free, according to Transfermarkt, there is one that stands out - David Ayala, 22 year old Argentinian playing for Portland Timbers in the MLS. Having an outstanding season. Given that he's currently playing for them Transfermarkt may have got things wrong contract wise. But if he has little left on his contract he would fit the player trading model for sure. Argentinian U20 international.

Although it's easy to be sniffy about the MLS, I read an article recently showing that they've made massive strides recently in terms of physical intensity, moving ahead of some of the European big 5 leagues.

I have seen more MLS matches than I'd like. The standard of play is still not great, though it's gotten a bit better over the last 4 or 5 years.

I would put the attacking side of the game at about a lower-table Championship level, but the defending is often subpar. I'd say the defending is solidly League One standard.

Just to give you an idea, if you remember Paul Arriola and Jordan Morris from a few seasons ago, they start matches when fit for a top half of the table MLS club, but were very much below the standard here. Alternatively, Jamie Paterson was struggling to get appearances for another club, but I'm not sure if that was fitness related or not.

That all said, given the very odd compensation structure of MLS, there are still some decent players to be found.

There aren't any red flags with any of the signings. All have good highlight reels or stats, or both. This was in stark contrast to the signing of the likes of Kukharevych, who had a handful of good games for Hibs by way of pedigree.

Good stats and impressive scouting reports doesn't guarantee anything of course. When we signed Bennett, he had a very decent Premier League pedigree behind him, and although he had his moments, his period with us was pretty underwhelming. Daniel Comolli (DoF at Liverpool and Spurs) is quoted along the lines of - We go through the exact same detailed process with all players, and whilst some still turn out to be World class, others fail miserably.

We need to be patient with those coming from overseas, such as Inoussa and Widell, given the settling in period tends to be longer.
