You're trying to engage.

I post on many fora and this is one of the worst for these kinds of debates, as much as JANET f*cking rocks. You can't have a debate about political differences. It always ends up with someone being called a c*nt or racist or bigot within the first page or so. It's almost like JANET's version of Godwin's law.
It’s not just me then? It’s odd isn’t it.

I don’t find any of it offensive just boring and as you say par for the course.

But it does work if that’s the intention as I end up giving up.

Your last paragraph sums up perfectly how I feel. Some people online are given the opportunity to say whatever they want, that maybe they wouldn't say to someone's face. I have no doubt whatsoever that if everyone on here were to meet for a chat, have a pint, a debate about the world, the rights and wrongs, have a laugh and all return home in 1 piece 😉
Exactly mate. I don’t doubt that at all.

You’re happy to be critical about both sides of the argument, which isn’t welcome here without being labelled as being either left or right wing. As NJ’s post perfectly demonstrates.

None or that has happened here so you’re making things up in your head.

Charlie Kirk is (was) a massive grifting bell-end.

Far left for you sadly

That alone makes him a bit of a cunt in my book

That was the first 2 pages alone - not going to go through the whole thread. I wasn't talking just about posters being called these things, btw. You literally called him 'a bit of a cunt' yourself.

I misunderstood, I thought you were talking about posters. I have no regrets about my choice of words to describe Kirk though. None at all. You want to defend his views while pretending to not really agree with him, that’s your prerogative. Pretty much everyone saw through that pages ago. I prefer to be honest about what I think.

And that's up to you to use those words, I just think it brings heat into these debates (word used loosely) that is unnecessary, which reflects what is happening in the world quite well.

Also please don't say that I am being dishonest, just because I don't think that every single view of his opinions are/were warranted. I disagree with a lot of what he says, probably more what I agreed with him on - and this is coming from someone who has watched his debates for, I dunno, at least 7 or 8 years...you admitted yourself that you'd never heard of him and I'm sure there are plenty of people jumping on the bandwagon to be critical of him that have never watched any of his debates before (and very likely vice-versa, in fairness). Some of his most notorious right-wing views are a handful amongst plenty of other sensible (IMO) views that he had. This was part of his modus operandi, he was someone who also wanted to stoke things for views as well as put his point across, which I have always been critical of him for. It doesn't help the political heat either.

Some of his views were abhorrent, some of them were sensible, I don't see why we can't have a debate about both sides of the coin. I watched his debates and found it interesting to hear why he had certain views, despite being vehemently against them. I like to understand why people come to certain conclusions rather than just deriding them for it. Some people have a mixture of left and right wing views and that is absolutely fine, but people on either ends of the political spectrum are very quick to zone in on the elements that they disagree with and use that to label them. I am simply not like that and I abhor the way political discourse is in the modern world, particularly with social media and the internet - and Charlie Kirk also fed into that. Some would say in a positive way (i.e. I've seen a lot of people saying he brought political debate to young people), some would say in a negative way (i.e. people saying his views were racist, sexist and homophobic). Both can be true if we look at it objectively.

I think that Corben is a right useless cunt.

Let me tell you a story. I worked with someone called James. 3 years ago we were informed the they were called Jaimie. Every time I saw them my first instinct was to say "Hello James". I managed to say the right thing each time until I learned to just say hello. What I didnt like was the inference that if I called him James I was being hateful rather thasn forgetful. I have been moved right not by my actions but by every one elses. Thats th eonly point I was making withj that picture. Iregretted posting it immediately but went to work and couldnt take it down.In summary, I havent changed but my place in the world has.

I’m afraid we’re fucked. The polarisation of politics here and, particularly, in the USA has meant that a political war is being waged and as we know, the first casualty of war is the truth.
If a Democrat wins the 2028 election will it be accepted as a fair result? Will the 2028 election be fairly administered? Is the US a democracy any more?
Do the airlines practice affirmative action? If they do has it resulted in air travel becoming less safe? It’s ludicrous to suggest that it has but the seeds of doubt are constantly being planted by Kirk and others and people buy it.
Are black women too stupid to hold any responsible position in society? Kirk thought so and many of the younger electorate bought it.
There was a time when a politician would think very carefully before telling a blatant lie publicly, not any more. When presented with researched truth the answer is “fake news”.
We’re fucked.

If I’m understanding that diagram correctly it implies that “the right” has held its positions and “the left” has marched inexorably further to the extremes. In my view that’s demonstrably untrue. While I wouldn’t argue that some elements of “the left” have become more or extreme, when you consider the political discourse now I don’t see how anyone can argue that “the right” hasn’t done the same. When I was younger “the right” was that of Thatcher, Reagan and Major. Now it’s Farage, Tice, Lowe, Badenoch, Yaxley Lennon. The first three would have found the second group completely unhinged and distasteful. The biggest “left” party in the UK has Starmer, a fairly pragmatic centrist, as its leader. In the US it’s in disarray but its last leader was Biden. Again, hardly a bastion of extreme leftism. I can see how that diagram holds comfort for those who like to think that their own positions haven’t changed but everyone else’s has though. There’s a a lot of that self delusion about now. (Last two sentences not aimed at you but a general observation).
I was considering myself as the person in the middle. Im standing on the right now but I didnt do anything. The world has changed around me. Not that it matters.
