Seems like the sort of press resistant midfielder we have been crying out for. Love Fulton and Grimes but when they get pressured you can guarantee that ball is going back or sideways. All for this loan

He also has a level of energy and agility above what Fulton and Grimes possess. We have been searching for this engine for some time, hopefully this is the one which delivers across a full season.

"He does get pickpocketed in bad areas and doesn’t really have an amazing turn of pace and seems to saunter about the pitch"

The Humphreys one I'm very impressed with, just the type of player we need, but not convinced with this one.

Obviously highly rated at Arsenal though and Blackpool were a struggling side.

Supposedly the next Frenkie De Jong, Patino is capable of dictating play and prefers to dictate play.

Hard to tell from those brief highlights, but I did get that impression. He held onto the ball a few times, but maybe it's just down to inexperience

Justifying season-long loans made in August by bringing up Borini doesn't work as the situations are massively different.

Right now, we've played one league game and have no idea how our season is going to pan out.

When Borini arrived on 17th March 2011, we'd played 37 games and were in 2nd place in the table. After a great run previously, we'd lost 2 and drawn 1, scoring just 2 goals in those 3 games.

Brendan saw the need for a striker and was presumably able to leverage his Chelsea links to bring Borini in for the last 9 games. Although he didn't make the difference in sealing automatic promotion, he was clearly a big boost to the team and played his part in getting us promoted via the playoffs (even if he didn't score any goals).

The amazing thing with Borino that many forget, he had already agreed a ore contract to join Parma before he joined us.......absolutely massive risk at that point to join us in his career taking into account possible injury.

Duff confirmed he has trained with us today, weekend too soon for a few mins?

They don’t need to be justified, they are part and parcel of football and most certainly our club right back to Leon and Tate right the way through to Gylfi and De Guzman.

People don’t understand the loan market.

If there is a choice between a class CB like Humphrey’s for minimal outlay on loan for 12 months, or a worse one in Pedersen for a lot more money who will be here for 2 seasons with minimal sell on value - give me the loan any day.

Loans are bread and butter for any club like ours with minimal annual income, trying to get into the EPL whilst competing with the likes of Leicester, Leeds and Southampton.

It’s pie in the sky to think we shouldn’t be very active in the loan market.

I find these loans quite interesting and it's got me wondering whether or not the powers that be at the club are feeling a little more inclined to give the team a bit of a push based on us being crap for at least half of last season but still managing to finish only 3 points off the playoffs. Admittedly, the division is looking a bit stronger than last season but maybe they are thinking we might not be far off again with the new manager and a few decent loans may make all the difference. It will be interesting to see the makeup of the squad when the window closes.

I'm not arguing against loans in general, I'm saying that comparing a summer loan signing like Patino or Ashby to the loan signing of Borini is a poor comparison.

So we should only loan in Jan?

Not sure why you're moving the goalposts on this. Of course we shouldn't only loan in January.

What does your question have to do with the point that comparing loaning Borini after 37 games have been played to loaning a player in August is a bad comparison?

No goalposts being moved, I’m saying the loan market is extremely important and listed a heap of them as being very important in our journey.

You have picked out one and said I can’t compare that one for some reason.

Loans are to bolster your squad. Whether you do that at the start or in January doesn’t make a lot of difference to the sentiment - except prior to the start of the season you have a better choice than in Jan and of course the benefit of them helping you longer.

Great, glad we're in agreement. Loans are important for a club like us and comparing any of our summer loans to Borini is a unsuitable comparison. It would probably have been easier just to admit it in the first place.
