Alan Sheehan on Birmingham City | Reaction

In the poll a few weeks ago, well over 90% of people had us to finish somewhere between 3rd and 12th. Which on one hand is great, because there hasn't that much positivity amongst the fanbase for years.

On the other hand, I think some people have got a little bit giddy with it. I get it to an extent, because we haven't seen this much money spent on the squad in a long time, it is exciting. But we also have to be realistic. Firstly, because a lot of the spending simply filled gaps in the squad that should have been sorted a while ago. And secondly, we've not exactly bought players who are used to operating at the higher end of this division. A lot of them are punts on potential, like Inoussa and Widell. Only Burgess really has that kind of experience.

So for us to be where we are in the table right now, with the performances we've seen, feels about right to me. We're a much improved side, but very much still in development.
1000%. This is my take. I for one voted we would be in top 6, not because I think we are suddenly deserved to be promotional contenders, but because I am positive we are on track and bit optimistic. At same time, its tong and cheek, I know we are in development, and this is why I won't hit the panic button everytime we lose. Dare I say it, is it a generation thing? Do people expect everything now and no patience. If they had to be brought up with only 4 channels on TV and a good old phone box, maybe they would be different 😂😂.. OK I'm being to random now. Joking aside, Sheehan is not even 12 months into his biggest and don't forget first role as a permanent manager. He will make mistakes like others. We will get there. But many are impatient.

I’m reasonably happy with where we are and how we’re progressing. This is Sheehan’s first major role as manager, and he’s navigating a squad full of new faces still bedding in. It’s a world away from Martinball or Willyball — we’re building something fresh, and that takes time.
Yes, Sheehan will make mistakes. That’s part of the learning curve. But there’s a clear intent, and yesterday’s disallowed goal was perfectly legitimate. Add in the fatigue from the Forest game and a ridiculously early kick-off — thanks, Sky — and it’s no surprise the lads looked a bit flat.
We’re moving forward. I’d be more than happy with a solid top ten finish this season. That’s progress. That’s foundation. Let’s back the team, back the manager, and keep some perspective.

I would imagine most will back the team but there is nothing wrong with questioning things and/or giving an opinion that might be seen by others as negative if they feel it improves things.
As a club and a team, we are most certainly doing ok. We are sitting 10th early doors, a position I personally see us in and around all season so won't be panicking with that. It's fine margins in this league and we need to learn quick if we want to be one of those middling teams that want to break from the bunch and make a move to threaten the players off places.

10 games unbeaten at home, Birmingham are 27 unbeaten at home ain’t they? Sheehan has lost 3 in the last 17 games, not to worried about how it’s going he’s doing a fine job, yeah 2nd half was terrible yesterday but let’s hope he learns to use the squad better with subs and not holding on.

My concern is in the attacking side of performances, not just yesterday but pretty much all season so far. We are being clinical with what little we create but if we continue down this path, that won’t last forever, it never does. We have to be putting on performances worthy of scoring goals and that means creating a fair bit more than we are. This doesn’t mean I would sack the manager, he’s done a good job but it is a worrying pattern in the season so far for me.

Six games in with a brand new squad. This team will click sooner rather than later.

Just look at some of yesterdays results, this league is wide open this season.

It is ok to question thing, sometimes it's the way in which people question, criticise which is the issue.

Think I mentioned yesterday that I think that it may take quite a bit longer for the league to settle down this season.

After 10 games it's been pretty clear over the last few seasons who the top 3/4 sides are going to be and also a group of 6-8 sides that'll be battling relegation. This year it looks like much more of an even playing field with some unexpected sides at both ends of the table. Could be well after the November international break until we know who the contenders are.

Couldn't agree more with that.

At the start of the season who could predict Stoke would be sitting in second place on 12 points and Sheffield United bottom without a single point.

Southampton got spanked by Hull yesterday (was our draw such a bad result?)

Is this the most exciting season we've had for a while? I hope so 🤞🏼

Fingers crossed it will be (as long as we're at the top end!!)

The bottom of the PL looks like it could be a bit more interesting too - be good news for both leagues if a couple of the promoted sides stay up.

The premier league relegation race does look wide open, which is great for the game, gives teams similar to us a bit of hope.

I haven't been this excited about watching football for a long time.

There are a few people too (you know who you are) who when Sheehan was appointed was disappointed, because they thought we were Barcelona and should be appointing Klopp or something, and made a statement along the lines of, I wouldn't have made this decision but I will support him now that he's our manager
.......................... Then don't.

Quite a few are looking for reasons to dig, feignt praise when we win but on a roll when we lose.

The odd one's are Cardiff fans too.

We are not doing bad at this moment, we can do better yes. If we lose every week and start flirting with disaster, then there would be a reason to doubt and look for change. If we're still in the same postion in 6 months and no improvement then maybe that would be a reason to start doubting.

Right now, we're doing OK.
Absolutely! It's say this is to be expected. The international games straight after the transfer window closed hasn't helped at all, but we're still dealing with a largely new team. If it was later on the season I'd certainly be more concerned, but we're not Real Madrid - so stop EXPECTING wins, EVERY TIME.

The importance here that many forget or overlook is that we have evidence that our team can grind out wins and keep fighting. The players all seem to be enjoying their game time and we should only expect improvements under these conditions.

There's nothing I've seen yet that's cause for alarm and certainly nothing that can't be worked on or improved.

I think people are just a little gutted we lost yesterdays game after such an epic performance during the week.

Decision making in football can be extremely marginal especially in player recruitment and when one looks at strikers like Kone and McBurnie who are both finding the net regularly at QPR and Hull one wonders what we will get from Idah as at the moment he has done very little on the ball let alone stretched the opposing keeper.

Early days yet for him, two sub appearances in the league and brought on in both games when we had lost control of the game and his only start in the cup v Forest where he struggled to get into the game.

Swansea City 🦢 v Millwall 🦁
