• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

Interestingly, it targets some of the very cars they are trying to get folk into, you know the electric ones with massive heavy batteries.
An electric car doesn't have to be a big heavy SUV, something like a Renault 5 isn't a bloated overweight truck.
Makes sense to me.

Indeed,it goes on weight rather than size/footprint, just saying that generally EVs are 15, 20 even 30% heavier than petrol cars for example. 👍

Agreed, I've got an Octavia vrs which weighs about 1450kg, the electric SUV equivalent is the Enyaq Coupe vrs which is around 2250kg - that's 50% heavier!!
Electric vehicles aren't necessarily an issue but bloated SUV's are.

I could never understand why cars have become so large, so much so that even standard parking spaces are now bigger than before. Not withstanding the damage these larger vehicles are doing to the roads. Not 100% convinced it's being implimented for all the right reasons, but, it is what it is, its not going to affect me if I'm being honest, but it may others.

Yes and that extra weight causes more rapid damage to the road surface. Maybe Road tax should have a weight element?

If road tax is in any way supposed to be contributing to road maintenance then it absolutely should

What problem are they trying to fix by implementing this charge?

Most people in Cardiff who drive really big SUVs (like RR Vogue, Bentayga, Defender 130, XC90 and GLS) will have private driveways so will not be affected. Only applies to on-street resident permits.

Went with family to watch the Cardiff half a few weeks ago, we ended up near Roath Park. Never been in that part of Cardiff before, there were some seriously nice gaffs there, I can see what you mean about having drives etc.

What annoys me about this new rule, is WTF do council employees get a parking pass, they should be in the same boat as everyone else.

There's something in the BBC article linked about new parking passes being created for 'essential council staff', so I presume that would mean they could get one but would still probably have to pay more if they have a larger vehicle.

I drive a Tesla model 3 EV saloon which weighs about 1615kg a similar size BMW 3 series saloon weighs between 1450 to 1900kg depending on the engine so very little difference in weight.

SUV’s of all types weigh significantly heavier than standard saloons or hatchbacks.

Fuel type has very little to do with weight. Safety design has resulted in much bigger and heavier cars to ensure we as drivers and passengers can walk away from a collision which cannot be said for pedestrians or cyclists generally if hit by a SUV.

Its SUVs they seem to be targeting, yes.
I'd put money on the fact that if you put two similar SUVs similar spec, same footprint, etc, etc, side by side one EV one petrol, I'd put money on the EV weighing more, could be wrong mind, but I reckon batteries weigh significantly more than a tank of fuel.🤷‍♂️
