Its SUVs they seem to be targeting, yes.
I'd put money on the fact that if you put two similar SUVs similar spec, same footprint, etc, etc,side by side one EV one petrol, I'd put money on the EV weighing more, could be wrong mind, but I reckon batteries weigh significantly more than a tank of fuel.

Should be easy enough to check, vehicle weight is show on the reg certificate.

I wonder how long they are talking about, before they intend to implement this new rule.?

IMHO unless it’s a 5 year fair warning, then just get ferked. And that’s without even considering, will the proposals do any good or not.

I did look for a timescale, and it’s not on the news article in question, just talks about further consultation at a later date.

EV’s are much heavier than proper cars, it’s not up for debate. The road tax should be more due to them carving up the roads.

An ICE powertrain system weighs less than the EV equivalent, I am yet to find one that bucks this trend when measured at system level.
