He’s been absolutely slated this season for underwhelming performances… and quite rightly so on most occasions.

But last night he was excellent against probably the trickiest winger in World Football.

I thought Key outstanding and did a better job a lot of Premier League full backs have managed against Doku.

Credit where it’s due… let’s hope it gives him confidence to push on for the rest of the season.

I thought he pressed Doku well further up the field but struggled on a one to one. Doku got past him on a number of occasions including his goal. I think the 5 at the back covered for him a few times which kept us in the game for an hour.

Saying that, no disgrace in what is the best winger in the prem. Credit to for Tymon to force Bobb to get quite predictable with his crosses which he blocked a few.

Love this! Ive bashed him a fair bit this season.

Let's hope last night was the tonic he needed to kick on.

Fantastic performance Josh 👏

Looked really good last night. Odd how he can look really good against top class players and then look like he's never played the game before against EFL chaff.

He did OK, let's not get carried away though, his defendng for Man City's first goal was awful. Also he had much more cover with 5 at the back (and Widdell supported him as well).

I do hope he improves, I can't see it personally and would prefer Casey at RB and then get a brand new shiney RB in January

I do think a lot of his failings are down to confidence and concentration.
Maybe last night he knew he couldn’t let his mind wander

I didn’t think his defending was that bad for the first goal… he contained Doku for the majority of the time.

A World Class player of the quality of Doku is going to get the better of him from time to time… he did far batter against him than Ben Davies & Neco Williams did for Wales.

Key and Tymon can both hold their heads up high after those performances. Tymon’s concentration through that second half especially was superb.

Tymon's role was fascinating last night. When we were in possession, he was pushing up alongside Inoussa and Samuel-Smith was the left-back in a back 4. When they had the ball, Samuel-Smith would tuck in as essentially a third CH and Tymon became the left back in a 5 man defence. It meant he had to concentrate throughout as you say and also get up and down that wing a lot.

When you see players do that and show what they're actually capable of, it really makes you wonder why on earth they always seem to be at 75% most of the time. Surely the manager's job and that of his coaching team is to get every player performing as near to 100% as possible, 90% minimum, and if their performances start to sag, give them a rest and put someone else in until they're ready to fire on all cylinders again. Bournemouth for example, have being doing it since the Eddie Howe days, high energy, high press, high intensity and it's what fans want to see. To me, the concept of "overachieving" in football is a nonsense as you can't play better than you are capable of either individually or as a team but you can play closer to your potential and better than you have been doing. Was Josh Key overachieving last night? No, of course he wasn't, it's just that we're used to seeing him underachieving and Sheehan and his team need to get him and all the others doing that consistently.
