That's not what i said is it. Personally i would have given him more time to turn things around. Hope that helps
well he wasn't turning it around, was he - it was getting worse.
So by giving him more time, you would see more of that.
Hope that helps.

I think this post from Mad_Mike on the other forum sums up the situation and my feelings perfectly:

Genuine guy.
Did a good job as interim manager. X2
Promoted above his competence.
Thanks for everything Alan.
Yes, but...are we sure the players are competent as well to get us top 6. Jury has decided on Sheehan but still out for me on the players I'm afraid. Not being negative but realistic, but yes time and a new Manager will tell.

Oof. I thought they'd give him until xmas to try and turn it around, but the owners have certainly shown a ruthless streak here. Makes me think they might have someone lined up.

I'm sick of this managerial merry-go-round by now. We used to have a great record with managerial appointments, but we've certainly been leveling that out in recent years, we're just another club sacking-hiring-sacking-hiring people that don't work out every season. Needs to change. Get this one right.

No intention of assassinating Sheehans football competence his record this season speaks for itself and I think everyone knows by now my thoughts on his appointment.

Some of the contributions to this thread though are crazy,am I happy somebody asked, how can any true fan be happy when they look at the demise of the club on the field.

Three managers in around eighteen months is absolutely shocking but I guess that’s where we are right now. This was unquestionably the right call, how the hell could we possibly give Alan until Xmas to get things right, could you imagine the toxic atmosphere at the Wrexham game if we were still in trouble especially if the rumoured attendance of some high profile backers was true…was never going to happen.

Who comes next I have no idea, but let’s hope it’s someone who can mould what I believe to be a talented squad into a side with an identity and an adventurous approach, no place for negativity this time around.

One last dig at some on here, I don’t doubt there will be contributors who are waiting to be able to point and say…see it is the players not Sheehan that was at fault, let’s hope we get the next appointment right and shut them up.

I sincerely hope that the next manager is a good appointment and is massively successful, however what you have said goes both ways. There's a good chance that the players we've signed are not that good and no manager will be able to do that much with them. If that's the case, people like yourself will continue to blame the manager and carry on claiming we have a talented squad that needs the right manager.

I don't know what changed in his mentality or coaching methods between when he took over as interim coach last February and this summer into this season. The aggressive high press and swift transition from winning the ball high up the pitch and getting in behind defenders out of position disappeared entirely.

People point to Lewis O'Brien but he wouldn't have been solely responsible for a concerted heavy press as opposed to the dribs and drabs of pressure that always left an out ball that we experienced for almost all of this season.

After one good half against Man City with 5 4 1 Sheehan then obsessed over it for the next four games resulting in arguably our worst performances of the season and persisted with it even when a goal or two down in games.

I always hate to see managers sacked (ours at least) but something had to change and after the Ipswich horror show there was never going to be better timing. A week and a bit (hopefully) for a new manager to get his feet under the desk with the international break and get some of his ideas to the players and then about two months to work out what he wants to add to the squad in the January window.
