Kim Hellberg - Now’s the Time

What has this bloke done in football at a level that suggests he could manage our current squad…nothing!!
We have a couple of high profile backers/ influencers and I’m more than certain that this bloke doesn’t fit the profile of the club.

We’ve gone down the road several times of trying to unearth the next bright young thing and failed miserably, that model is dead, bigger and better is coming and we’ll soon see whether this talented group of players are good enough, remember, I’m never wrong… honestly 👍

It'll be another stat and data merchant if he gets appointed.. we've been stat driven for about 4 years now.. it's time to bin it and instill football traits in players.. because our players are clearly uncomfortable out on a pitch, which leads to so many errors.. Milwall and Preston are doing well because they're coached right, they don't point at spread sheets and demand to play like Barcelona.. there's bound to be a theory on this out there somewhere.. we need to get real, but we won't because Dimi is a grade A moron and a narcissist, he's like Martin, an idiot who'll blame everyone and everything except himself because he's right and everyone is wrong, and he will go on and on and on
Oh contraire - i think we need to be more stat driven.
Under Sheehan we were doggedly pursuing his pragmatic approach- but completely disregarding the crucial stats
If he had genuinely tried to fix the XG, touches in opposition area, attacking heat maps and goals scored - Sheehan might well have survived.

Sky Sports now reporting on Swansea's interest in Kim Hellberg, stating that initial talks have already taken place.

There's another interesting line in their report regarding Alan Sheehan's coaching staff, including Darren O'Dea and Richard Stearman, who are seemingly facing an uncertain future.

"The club hierarchy are set to hold talks this week with Sheehan’s coaching staff regarding their futures,"

An interesting update from the BBC this afternoon, who claim former Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick 'has admirers' at Swansea City.

Their report cites the former Manchester United midfielder's impressive contact book and playing style as possible factors in his favour.

They also believe Kim Hellberg is "firmly in the frame", but have seemingly played down the chances of Brendan Rodgers and Russell Martin returning to SA1.

A full reset is needed, we shouldn’t be hampering a new manager with the previous one’s back room staff.

Looking at the Hammarby team and they have a 21 year old right back who has played the last two seasons. May be the next cab off the rank in our Swedish revolution.

Any news outlet that seriously reports that Swansea would be interested in being reunited with Martin is a hack. Even a small amount of research would tell them that Martin well and truly burned that bridge when he gave Southampton confidential information about his contract to help them secure a cheaper buyout clause to get his services.

Clubs don't rehire managers that they took to court for breach of contract.

Just seen in Rossi's buying a rissole.

On a more serious note, I spend a small part of time living in Stockholm and I watch Allsvenskan matches when there. My "home" team is Djurgarden who share a stadium (The 3 Arena) with Hammarby in Stockholm.

Hammarby are playing exciting football with a plus 30 goal difference. Its hard to tell how Hellberg will adjust, some obvious practical reasons are:

1. At home, Hammarby play on high quality artificial turf which gives a distinct home advantage except when playing my club Djurgarden.
2. Before I say this I will stress I'm a born and bred Jack with a Swan tattoo but Hammarby is a bigger club in terms of attendances (23000 to 25000), so its not the same as a midweek home game with 11000 in the Swansea.com
3. There’s less long distance travel and, for longer trips, its by air.
4. The type of football is different.
5. It would be unfair to compare the standard of football to EFL championship because the type of play is different.
6. Hammarby hasn't competed recently in Europe but Djurgarden has and, in last season's Europa Conference League Djurgarden hammered Pafos and Rapid Vienna in the group stages and lost 5-1 on aggregate to Chelsea in the semis.

So, in summary, lots of unknowns and another risky option, but at least he has relative big club experience and knows where the opposition goal is!

And if he likes meatballs, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut and lingonberry sauce, a shot of aquavit and drives a Volvo then he's good enough for me!

So the bloke that was overlooked last time in favour of a part time assistant coach with no managerial experience is now our saviour. Ferkin yippee!

He was who the owners wanted but felt they couldn’t not give the job to Sheehan… which would have been madness for them not too.

But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I’ve said before that I understood the reasons for the appointment, although it wouldn’t have been my choice, but I have to say that they need to show more character going forward. If someone is the right person for the job, they should be appointed whatever fans think. And properly communicated, fans would have understood anyway. Hopefully they learn a salutary lesson from this as it’s cost the club a fortune that would have been better spent elsewhere.

I still think Sheehan absolutely earnt the right to have a go on a full time basis… maybe not on a 3 year contract tho 🥴

I understand why people would think that but I wouldn’t have made the choice.

Anyway, I very much hoped that he’d prove to be a fantastic appointment and it’s a huge shame it hasn’t worked out.

I didn’t fancy Sheehan much but I was willing to accept that he’d earned his shot at it. What’s a shame is that he blew his opportunity by reverting to the bullshit of Martin and Williams as soon as he got his feet under the table. I can’t see why the owners didn’t appoint Hellberg at the time if he was their choice, it doesn’t add up and I’m not buying it. If they wanted him, and he wanted the job, he would have been the manager.
