• We have today (22nd April) confirmed the closure of JackArmy.net on 31st May. Our reasons are varied but after a twenty-five year stint at the heart of the online Swansea City community, the time is right for us to bow out. Eom

Vigouroux, Galbraith, Tymon and Vipotnik are all top Championship quality and the kind of players that you can build promotion contending teams around.

Stamenic isn't far behind them. Tough to say what I think he needs to add to his game to take it to the next level, if anything I would only say consistency, some games he rules the midfield and cuts through the press and picks out passes like its nothing and other games he retreats right in between the center halves and removes himself as the link between the defense and midfield.
He needs to be more forward thinking imo. We've seen that he's capable of either playing long diagonals to the wing or marauding through the midfield through carrying the ball forward and he seems to have a knack of getting onto the end of loose balls in and around the box.

But more often then not he'd rather play a simple pass back to Burgess or Cabango and slow us down.

The yellow cards really do need to be cut down aswell.

Nathan Dyer played all 46 games in our promotion season. His stats? 2 goals and 7 assists (4,004 minutes).

Eom has played in 43 games this season and has 2 goals and 5 assists (2,381 minutes).

No-one was questioning Dyer's place in the team that season. Yes it would be lovely for Eom to add more goals to his game, but it's disingenuous to suggest that's the only thing that matters.
This is the issues with stats and people always referring to them.
How many runs does he make to draw a defender away?
How much of his movement helped create space for a goal even if he hasn’t touched the ball?
His ability to push and drive towards a player without the ball to close the space down and forcing them to play long etc, etc
There are many things players do and Eom does that goals and assists etc stats don’t pick up

To balance my earlier post, I should point out that Ronald has the relatively strong stats (for this team) of 4 goals and 5 assists in 43 games, but we are all aware how frustrating he can be when it comes to final ball or shooting opportunities.

My point overall was that stats are one part of judging a player, but not the whole story. Eom's lack of goals stands out more because the team as a whole outside of one player haven't contributed enough goals.

For me Eom has looked on the brink of becoming an important player for us at various times in his 2 seasons here, with the recent run of form being the most positive (his assist against Leicester being especially attention grabbing). I'm hopeful he'll take the next step next season and lock down his place in the team, but I do appreciate he was also on a fine run at the end of last season, as FOJP pointed out.

This is a fair point and I do think there is probably too much of a fixation on individuals output in terms of goals and assists. Obviously it's important when recruiting players, but the far more important thing is the number of goals scored by the team as a whole.

We're 10-15 goals away from being a playoff side - whether that comes from one winger/attacking midfielder or is shared between 4/5 players is largely irrelevant. It'll be interesting to see whether any of the current players are able to help us bridge that gap next season.

Talking about 10-15 goals Wrexham signed
Josh Windass on a free 14 goals 5 assists in 39 games .
What do you think the response of this forum would be to signing a 32 year old attacking midfielder / striker ?
What a signing for them .

Not against brining in a couple of players with significant Championship experience but not sure it fits with the general recruitment model, and there’s the wage issue as well.

Interesting to see what type of players we target this summer after Matos’ comments in the week.

Yep. Wrexham's vastly different financial situation makes signing a then 31-year old to a three year contract on likely decent wages is no big deal. If he flopped or they get promoted, they'll just loan him out to a lower league team, content to get some of his wages paid. They've been doing just that while rising through the leagues because they can afford it. We're not in that position.

Besides, I don't think many here would be bothered about a signing like Windass if we did make it. We've all seen the value that a goal scoring and creative attacking midfielder can bring to the team, as we haven't had one worthy of the description since Paterson (who was 29 at the time also). Hopefully Walta can fill that role next season.

The people who bring up the stats to prove Eom is a bad player are the same people who will ignore the stats that say Ronald is our 3rd best player for goal contributions.
