We’ve already voted by post but did anyone see the Welsh leaders QT two weeks ago?
Watching that you’d struggle to vote for any of them, the biggest laugh of the night was for Huw Irranca-Davies who’s actually the Labour deputy leader because the actual leader Eluned Morgan was too busy to attend when he said that one of Labours policies was to bring hospital waiting times down, the audience were pissing themselves.

It’s a sad state of affairs when the underlying feeling is that I need to vote tactically, rather than for the party which outshines the others both in terms of policy set and political nous.

You may consider it sad but it’s not a new phenomenon. I’ve been voting for whichever party has been best placed to beat the party or parties I’d least like to win for about 30 years. How you do that depends on where you live, what election it is and what kind of electoral system is in use.

As recently as July 2024 I voted for the party that I believed in, a party with a manifesto that I generally agreed with and a leader who I thought was capable of leading. Tactical voting didn’t really enter my head. I am a million miles away from this for 7 May.

I take your point. Mostly the two align for me but far from always. But I’d be and have been quite happy to vote for a party less aligned with my own views if they were best placed to beat a party or parties that I’d never countenance voting for.

Every Welsh man and woman should only be voting for Plaid. Otherwise you are voting for more of the same from whichever coloured Westminster rosette they wear.

Uppafuckingplaid and Uppafuckingindependence

Your grandkids will thank you for it one day 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼

What’s amusing me in this election is the number or people who say they are “leaning towards reform because the others are all terrible”. Shut up mun you’re voting for them because they are finally the party that aligns with your world view. You’re voting for a party for government in wales whose top and arguably only priority is to lower immigration (which is already dropping like stone incidentally) despite the fact that the government you’ll be electing has literally no control over immigration as it’s not a devolve issue. Thick as mince, ya daft racists.

And anyone who does lean this way is advised to look at how well the Reform performance in local government has gone.

Interesting article from Simon Jenkins, looking in from the outside.

The idea of an independent Wales, part of the EU and going its own path, has always appealed to me. The patronizing negativity and gaslighting that this idea always generates from certain quarters only seemed to reinforce my belief. I'm not sure if it's ever going to happen, but I still hold out hope.

Will Deform throw all the English immigrants out of Pembrokeshire? Or is it just black people they don't like?

It's going to be sad how many votes they get. There are just so many ill-educated, twitter-fed, racists and dick heads roaming our country.

Plaid are in danger of appearing to have gone a bit soft in this regard. The Reform threat is much greater than it was in 2021, and yet one key initiative which Plaid could have counteracted with isn’t being pushed forward as strongly. I get the reasons why, but I consider the language used a bit lame.

The People’s Republic of Wales wasn’t built in a day. Small steps, nibble the elephant etc.

The current size of nibble doesn’t feel like it’s enough to thwart the threat of Reform.
The danger is overreacting in this instance. Reform will blow themselves out.

It’s difficult to counter constant lies. As the old saying goes “a lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has got his trousers on”. Never been more true than in the digital age unfortunately.
