Summer Transfer Window

The thing about O brien is that he is taking the place of three players wages. I think we needed him but in reality he is a poor man's Leon. He is good and very good in the Championship but we saw the good and the weaknesses of the man especially at the end of the season. The word is that we stopped chasing him over 5 weeks ago and are concentrating on 3 players who are quite good to say the least.

I thought O'Brien was absolutely superb for us and will be missed for surely......I would hope the club brings in a similar style player but I feel our need for a holding midfielder will mean we don't see a like for like player come into replace O'Brien.
Hoping Widell is a similar type but he might be a different type of player which would be a gamble but I hope it fits.

One thing we must accept, we were never going to be signing a player on 30k plus a week especially a player over 23yrs of age.

Right, he'll be 27 in October. He is no longer on an upward trajectory in terms of quality or value. As a player, he is what he is right now and his value will start declining.

As he's proven he is not exactly an impact player at the next level, clubs above us wouldn't be coming in for him.

I do understand that the fee isn't £10m, but given those wages there will little chance of recouping a fee for him in the future. So, essentially, Wrexham are paying £10m for 3 years of LOB. And, if they get promoted, he's likely to be on the bench. They have the money for these kinds of luxuries, we do not.

I'm perfectly fine with Galbraith and Widell. At least they have a chance at a providing a payday for us down the road.
If he has another great year in the championship he could be sold at a profit next summer. Grimes went to Coventry at 29 (the age O’Brien will be at the end of this contract) for close to the same fee and around £27k a week.

I’m all for buying players to earn a profit. It’s obviously the approach we’re taking (apart from centre back). But we also have to have players that can deliver for the first team now.

It depends what our ambitions are, obviously. But we are three players short at present and two of them need to be first choice on the team sheet players.

I will be really disappointed if we end up paying loan fees to a premier league team when we haven’t delivered the experience we need.

What 3 players is that?

You got a point especially when our head of global recruitment was based all about pragmatic football 😂
Jokes aside, we were never signing him for near on 40k a week.....never in a million years.

I think the club could have done a deal for him, but I think they didn’t want to rock the boat with players knowing people coming in on huge wages.

To be fair, everyone is a poor man’s Leon at this level. He was an absolute cut above. Same as Curtis was always an absolute cut above. Or Robbie. Or Ash. And Rangel. And Ferrie.

But finding those is difficult. We have been blessed over the years.

Anyway, have to hope that we are indeed looking at alternatives and we don’t think that what we have at present is enough at this level.

Yeah but that’s ridiculous. The players all know that some players will get paid a lot more than normal because of the impact they can have. I’d be a lot more pissed off if I was them knowing that players sitting on the bench are being paid close to, or even more than first team regulars.
