Summer Transfer Window

Great signing for Wrexham due to their commercial income they can blow 10M on him, I’m glad we didn’t fund that sort of deal, he’s closer to Huddersfield too so good luck to him.

For me, clearly we liked him and we needed to have players on a shortlist who would be a match in style to LOB but financially within our reach......I don't believe that Galbraith falls into that shortlist.

Widell might be that player, I just hope he is because we will miss O'Brien for sure.
Unless Widell is going to change his style completely from the first couple of games, he’s absolutely nothing like O’Brien.

While I agree with most everything you've said, I do feel that if we're to stump up the cash we would be better off spending elsewhere, despite how impactful LOB was during his brief spell here.

With a salary of that size and given his age, he would most certainly not be an asset for us to sell on later. So, if things went well for the duration of the contract, great for us. If they didn't and he got injured or lost his mojo, we'd be stuck. I just don't see anyone else taking him for that wage at his age (or inevitably, older). He's obviously just not an investment.

The one bit that's already been somewhat clear is that he would be little more than a squad player in the division above us, so he wouldn't exactly help us in that regard, were we to get promoted.

And, to top it off, I personally didn't really see him as a strong holding midfielder. Maybe I'm crazy (likely) but he looked better going forward than he did in defensive cover, despite his relentless workrate. So, I guess I see him as a box-to-box at most, defensively. So, while we have Franco as one more defensively minded MF, I'd love to see another come in more for that role. Well, that and an out and out 9.

So, all that is to say, if we're going to go "all in" with £10m, I'd rather see us get someone that's a bit of an investment and/or in the 9 or CDM roles.
He’s 26. I’d agree if he was 30.

And it’s not £10m. It seems to be around £4m. The wages are a separate matter. If they are £40k that was pretty much Grimes plus Pederson.

I mean total package if the rumours are true on his wages.
Yeah but we’re paying a fortune every week for Fulton. For example.

There are obviously different ways of cutting a budget and there is no right and wrong at this stage, only personal opinion.

But I am concerned that we’ve bought a good pair of shoes, bought some lovely spangly earrings and a nice necklace, and we haven’t bought a good dress to show that off as yet. And the wedding is in two weeks.

Now it may be that we have our eye on a dress but haven’t bought it yet. It may be that we’re borrowing one that would be out of our price range and are planning to return it after we’ve worn it. But I’ll be relieved when we do get it. Because otherwise we’re in danger of being (to use an old Swansea phrase) ‘all fur coat and no knickers’.

I think we will get another MF in who can play as a 6, but a first choice pairing of Galbraith and Franco looks pretty good to me
Galbraith needs to settle in to the Championship ,obviously, but may well do as good a job as LOB
One thing I am pleased to see is the involvement of so many U23's
Hopefully one or two will break into the first team squad without being loaned out
I'm hoping for 3 PL loans at 3,6 and 9, and some transfers out where the player isn't going to feature much - Bianchini, Ginnelly Yates as examples

Right, he'll be 27 in October. He is no longer on an upward trajectory in terms of quality or value. As a player, he is what he is right now and his value will start declining.

As he's proven he is not exactly an impact player at the next level, clubs above us wouldn't be coming in for him.

I do understand that the fee isn't £10m, but given those wages there will little chance of recouping a fee for him in the future. So, essentially, Wrexham are paying £10m for 3 years of LOB. And, if they get promoted, he's likely to be on the bench. They have the money for these kinds of luxuries, we do not.

I'm perfectly fine with Galbraith and Widell. At least they have a chance at a providing a payday for us down the road.

Fulton is a sunk cost. No sense moaning about what he's being paid when we can't change it. I think if we could offload him to anyone, we'd have done it already.

His ongoing wages are not a sunk cost.

Offloading him should have been an absolute priority this summer. The same goes for a few we have floating about.

If he's signed a contract for a determined wage, the contract isn't voidable, and no one will come in to match his wages, what would you have the club do?

I think a lot of people seem to be putting a lot of hope on a player that was playing at Orient last season and cost about a million quit or so. He looks a good player from what I’ve seen but it’s unreasonable to expect t him to deliver in the way that someone like O’Brien - who’s proven himself at this level on more than one occasion.
