I can see it now…he takes a break for a bit, ends up getting the Man City assistant manager job, Pep leaves halfway through a season…Russy takes charge in the interim, his tactics work with a £1 billion squad, gets offered the job full time…wins back-to-back PL titles…his head absolutely explodes (“I said it all along lads, you’ve got to trust the process”), the few people who still support him here will come out with the ‘I told you so’ posts…

You watch.
Exactly right, the ‘process’ serves Russell and nobody or nothing else.

Dar, Dar - look what Nigel Nitts has been saying on the other site 🤣

Russell Martin - Rangers ... on 11:58 - Aug 29 by swancity

Russell Martin certainly divides opinion but it’s plainly inaccurate to describe him as “ incapable and deluded “.

At Rangers FC now, we all know how weak the Scottish League is and it’s arguable that the best clubs there are not good enough to play in the EFL Championship. Possibly they are League One level. So it’s not a surprise to see Rangers lose to Brugge. It’s the Rangers club and it’s entitled supporters that are in fact deluded. Martin is well aware of their limitations.

Martin has a reputation for over playing. He knows that modifications are required but he’s trying to get his teams to play in a certain way and when it works it’s a joy to watch. He did quite well here and a club record unbeaten league run of twenty plus games at Southampton says a lot. He’s stubborn undoubtedly but he’s right to question the attitude of highly paid players. He is under pressure already but good luck to him.
