I suspect it's because Martin was a twat.

A lot of people have it in for Whittaker because he apparently dissed Russy to his face. That only makes me like him more. He certainly wasn't wrong to do so.

The fact he refused to play for the club, posted on his social media that he was annoyed to come back from his loan are probably the reasons people dislike him I'd say.

He never refused to play for the club, when he was recalled from his loan yes he did post on social media that he was sad to leave Plymouth and return to Swansea. But he came back because the owners were expecting to get a quick buck out of selling him and to a manager who clearly didn't like him or rate him no matter how well he performed.

When Martin left and Duff came in he requested a transfer and said he had no intention to play for the club again and rightly so.

It seemed absurd even then that Cullen was so often favoured ahead of him in the starting lineup. In retrospect considerably more so.

Whittaker's time with us was doomed from the start and ultimately he wanted out from the early days.
He was signed and Cooper didn't want him so in the same route as Gyokeres, he was very rarely used and if my memory is correct, he wasn't happy he only completed 1 game in his time when joining us that season.

He gets credit for developing Piroe into an asset that we sold for a good profit, but he didn't want him when he took over (Piroe had been signed before his arrival). Piroe's goalscoring record forced him to back down on that.

The Piroe scenario was quite familiar with Vipotnik this season. Luckily Vipotnik starting scoring goals otherwise he could have been out the door as Sheehan pushed for the pragmatic approach that VP didn't fit into.
Whittaker signed as a 20yr old, we were desperately searching for a striker, Cooper wanted strikers that were out of our reach so ended up with a young Whittaker.....not long after his arrival, he wanted out regardless who the new man was.
