From Modric to Mid Table: Is Sheehan Out of His Depth?

I’m at the age where cleaning the kitchen is more engaging than watching our football games so I understand completely, 😂

From Modric to Mid Table: Is Sheehan Out of His Depth?

Oh we are really boring. I get that. I’m just not certain that changing all the time is the way to go. Having said that, do I think Sheehan will be here this time next year? Probably not. But I think we need to give him more of a chance than this to prove himself.

    Alan Sheehan.

I agree. None of our team are creating anything at the moment. So being stuck with a fear of moving someone as he is ‘our most creative midfielder’ is pointless. I’d move him to right back (as I’ve said for a few weeks now) and play a 10. I like Galbraith but we’re not getting much out of...

    Alan Sheehan.

“he seems to be our only real creative midfielder.”. What’s he creating?

From Modric to Mid Table: Is Sheehan Out of His Depth?

Completely agree with your conclusion. We have to have a period of stability. Blaming managers for squad weakness or imbalance can’t continue. I’ve said before that Sheehan wouldn’t have been my choice but I could completely understand why he was given the role. I don’t think now is the time...

From Modric to Mid Table: Is Sheehan Out of His Depth?

You mention a completely overturned squad a couple of times. I think this is overstated. Yesterday, 7 of our starting 11 were here last year. In some games as many as 9 of the starting 11 are last year’s squad. That is the issue in some ways. We recruited a large number of players and are...

Yeah. That’s where the two looping headers came from I think. But they aren’t really half chances. The way we normally are from attacking set pieces they’re more of a twentieth chance… If that !

Sorry but what half chances did we have in the last ten minutes? The two looping headers from Casey? If those are being regarded as half chances it rather emphasises the lack of creativity surely?

Fair enough. Our goalkeeper played very well. Again. He is an excellent keeper in my view. I didn’t think our centre backs had their best day to be honest. We were lucky not to concede at least two, maybe three. Willingness to fight for the ball? We lost a ton of fifty fifties and were...

Great point. Everything else was dreadful. We have no creativity in this team. None. Not helped by the formation which leaves huge gaps between back and front. I’m unsure though why anyone is that surprised. We didn’t have any real shape or style last season. We just achieved good results...

Too much of the same is what I said. Too similar. They have somewhat different strengths but at the heart of it they are all neat, tidy, technically good - some strength with Stamenic and Franco - some drive with Yalcouye - good link up from Galbraith, but none of them have that creative...

The Blackburn commentator made the point that their player hadn’t been able to push on since Eom came on. I thought he injected a spark into our play for the first 15 minutes or so when he came on. During which time we scored our second.

Yeah, that may be it. He hasn’t seemed as sharp as he was doing. To be honest, I just think it’s the combo in midfield that’s not working. Any three of Franco, Galbraith, Stamenic and Yalcouye is just too similar. And creates the issues in joining up front and back. As I said on Saturday...

Great three points. Lacklustre performance. Lucky with the pen but we’ve had a few the other way. Our starting midfield doesn’t work. Nor the one we started with on Saturday. The players are too much of the same. Nice, neat and tidy but no real creativity. It may not be popular but I think...

He didn’t want to come here. So that’s not a stick to beat us with.

Cabango had an excellent game with one exception - he let the player get the wrong side of him to head it back across goal when they scored..

I think it may be worth a change around to see if it helps. Sheehan plays a holding midfielder and two in front. No number 10. And that leads to three options to link back and front - either it goes wide or it gets lumped. Or play is ponderous while we wait for the midfield to move forward...
