Are we? Could you elaborate please ? I can't see much that's different tbh.

The biggest difference is we are not constantly passing the leather of the ball. We do still do it in the game, but nowhere near as much as we were.

So what is different then, genuine question because I can't see it?

We’ve moved to a back 4 with full backs instead of 3 centre backs & 2 wing backs. Still playing the silly goal kick routine though with no pace or urgency until we go behind. All pretty turgid, & boring seems the popular view to many. Some call it possession based football

We’re not shit. We’re not good either. We are indescribably boring. And very average. The level of delusion among some about Russell Martin and the view that he’s some kind of footballing messiah is very strange. To me at least. Each to their own.

I concur. It’s exactly what I’ve been saying for a while.
What some people are seeing and saying is utterly bizarre.

I can only assume you're seeing these opinions elsewhere because on here (my only referrence point) he's almost entirely written off and has been for about a year now

There’s one ex-poster on twitter who won’t have a word said against him and I find it weird seeing as that person has been watch us for a long time.

If it’s who I think it is then he’s usually the one that swims against the tide.

Is it the same one who spent the years we rose through the divisions and established ourselves in the PL telling us Jenkins was terrible at his job, only to reverse tack and declare him brilliant as soon as he became a sellout?

That's still my favourite example of someone utterly unwilling to be seen as having a mainstream opinion.

Twitter mainly. He has some real acolytes who are convinced he’s the second coming of Guardiola despite the evidence of their own eyes.

And I'm convinced that that is what Russ wants, mentors of him and Pep in the same sentence.
Regardless of wether we've players capable, 75% possession is what he wants to land himself a PL job.
Playing occasionall long stuff/winning 2nd balls/not fannying about will also win us games Russ, and that will also land you a top job.
Win some fckn matches!!

I make it 2 wins in the last 6 games: D L W L W D. That's 9th in the current form table which shows how inconsistent most teams in the division currently are. What the result was 14 games ago is irrelevant.

This isn't a defence of Martin by the way. I was at the match yesterday and lost count of the times when the players chose a safe sideways pass rather than take a risk.

Unbeaten in two, Glyn. That’s promotion form over a season.

Been giving this some thought today amongst a whole load of reflections on various things that have happened recently.

We have won 2 of the last 12 league games, that tells you much but we remain in touch of the play offs which tells you even more about the standard of this division - top two teams apart.

I don't dislike Russell Martin but I find us dull and frustrating to watch more often than I find us interesting and enjoyable. That is not exclusive to Martin, I found Cooper's football the same.

What I don't see is noticeable improvements in his 18 months here. He has had two full windows (with the third almost complete) and there is very few players he has bought in where I would have said they made a difference after they arrived. We have spent some decent levels of money in that time but he is hampered by the fact that we generally need to sell before we buy.

I hope he succeeds as it means the team is successful but I feel no more affiliation to him than any other manager we have had pretty much since we sacked Laudrup. All I wish really is that I find us more interesting to watch.
