Funny, when Cooper was still here at the end of his tenure, I was defending winning football, as opposed to playing nice football but not getting the results.

I liked a lot of what I saw today. The passing in midfield was much sharper. Grimes didn't dawdle on the ball (until late on), and his interplay with Downes was good. How many times did we pass through the lines to a player on the half turn? We haven't seen that kind of thing since Laudrup days. In retrospect, Ntcham going off took away the creativity we needed at the end when they were camped in their box. We should have scored in the first half when we had enough chances - then it becomes a different game. Only downsides for me were, not scoring, obvs, and Bidwell being caught offside. FFS how many times? He's looking across the line and is still offside. It happened two or three times in the first half when we were in good positions - and it's happened in other games as well. Someone needs to have a word. Overall though, much better football than the last couple of years. And as we know, if you get the performance right the results will follow.

I thought it a right Curate’s egg. For a lot of it I was thinking oh, ffs, but some of the angles were very promising. The new no 10 was actually moving and looking forward. Incredible. We were much too slow at moving the ball. Grimes, Paterson and Biddy do my head in. Has to be grimes or Downes for my money, and I hope Manning and Walsh can show some form. Far too many touches and far too many return balls backwards to get us nowhere. Naughton presumably got cramp from standing still rolling the ball under his foot for 30 minutes at a time (that’s what it seemed like). He seemed to be a our playmaker, and I actually though he had a good game, but he’s not what you want doing that. Need someone that will drive into space and cause defenders to commit (he did that once and hit a cracker). In fact there were a lot of players that needed to drive forward with the ball rather than a pointless pass for the sake of it. There are far too many players who only have reverse gear and my big issue would be if that is all Martinball turns out to be. When they got 30 yards from goal they shit the bed. I felt sorry for Piroe and Obiscoreagoalforswansea. If Hull had pressed us further up, I still fear we’d have shit the bed there instead.

I don’t know what to think if I’m honest. Can I see something better if there was more daring, conviction and pace, yes absolutely. Did I enjoy that current incarnation. Not really. Would I prefer a 1-0 hump it down the channel and hope for a bit of luck. No, not until we are consistently being beaten or not looking more threatening in the final third, and we get ourselves in danger.

In fairness, Ntcham hasn't spent the last two years being coached to do anything but. Hopefully it'll come with time. Downes looks more positive. Grimes actually didn't destroy play when pushed a bit further forward.

I didn’t like seeing him so far wide or advanced as he was but I thought he came out of it well.

I’m hoping once Obafemi is fully fit him and Piroe will form some partnership up top and bang the goals in, we still have Walsh to come back when he’s fit and from what I saw of him in pre season he looks to have an eye for a pass.

Bennet didnt have to do anything i could have played in the back 3 today, what he did he did well to be fair but i would prefer Ben. If we are going to build this season we need to play Ben and Benda, i would develop Cooper before Bennet. Our biggest issue as i see it is at wingback with Bidwell and manning not good or fast enough.
