Wasn’t much different to last season really. Terrible game of football. Some seem to be pretending it’s a new dawn and we’ll sweep all before us with sparkling football. Didn’t see any evidence of that last night. It was no more entertaining than a Cooper team. Still early days for Martin though and a work obviously in progress. We’ll see.

Can't disagree with that except for perhaps the possession stats. How many times have we had 65% in the last couple of years? Last season we'd have been admiring our "shape" and the fact that we were "good without the ball" i.e. very Monk-esque. Hopefully it's something to build on but we are way short up front.

Because playing one of the worst teams in the league from last season, with Ayew, Rodon, Roberts, Guehi all in the team is the same as newly relegated Sheffield Utd with most of their premier league side still in tact.

We were dire last year, Ayew won games single handed.

We are crying out for some creative players, but that is not down to Martin. Here's hoping the board at least let him bring one in.

so we dont have the players to play the pretty football...yet everyone blamed our previous manager...the football last season was not as bad asso many make out and now it seems the squad needs sm overhaul to play attractive football so the previous manager wasn't a fraud but did well to get us to the playoffs in successive seasons

Be interesting to see what this manager could do with Guehi, Roberts, Gallagher, Brewster, Ayew, Hourihane, Celina, Rodon, MvdH and Baston to name just some of the talent at the disposal of RM's predecessor for considerable spells in his two years at the club...

It would but then this manager would not have had some of those players ie Brewster Gehui Gallagher Gibbs White as it as the previous manager who brought them here. The same manager got us to the play offs twice you miss my point people are saying we lack the players to play the Martin way and we have only lost Geuhi and Ayew but added up front spending a million on a player our manger seems reluctant to pick despite playing a stormer at Reading.listening to folk all we did under Cooper was hoof it I have posted clips showing that not to be the case Tina tika it wasn’t but it was not as bad as many profess as I said earlier we had the same possession stats and same number of shots in our opening home game last season why if we are now more attacking didn’t we have more shots

No we didn't hoof it but we was negative well drilled boring football nobody allowed to break the lines and be expansive, we were tight as a unit, some may like that but God it was boring

Simply put and spot on.

the vetchenararian chap has become very tiresome defending the indefensible....

even considering the source, the last post was an absolute rotter....

###. but what about all those clips i have posted ad nauseum ....... '?

let's face it ... we played football in patches in about 5 games last season ...we were so shite that i used to flick between our games and newport's on my IPTV service ... i even occasionally watched some premier league stuff.... it was fukking grim and then a bit

i could probably find 7 clips of cardiff playing pretty football and claim they were a decent team if we didn't know better .......and everybody here knows better ...don't forget we actually watched us ....... your clips are about as much use as a soluble tampon

### but ... but If we are so much more attacking, why didn't we score and shoot more against a newly relegated team with the exact same players as they came down with than we did against a woeful birmingham side that were lucky to escape relegation a few months earlier?

jaybus aitch christ

#### but but but why not play the sort of false striker he didn't buy that played well against some schoolkids?

i dunno but am willing to believe the new manager knows more than i do

how about giving the players a few weeks to get to know their manager and the manager a few weeks to get to know them... ?

we might end up being awful under martin .... i doubt it and think the signs are good ... but even if we do, it will never ever be worse than the dirge cooper produced for us ... not even close ........ and neither will the pressers :)

Going on last nights game alone you are 100% spot on.
I have absolutely no idea what people are watching because they aren’t watching the same as me.
Last night was nothing but a boring 0-0 draw and anyone saying any different is clearly deluded.
Paint me deluded then ( I know you do anyway :) ) but I enjoyed the first three games of the season far more than anything we saw over the past two seasons.
Much more exciting and if you think Saturday night was boring then you have a short memory.
For boring - see Brentford v Swansea Wembley 2021.
Or the majority of games while Cooper was in charge

So from the playoff final we are missing, Roberts, Guehi, Fulton, Hourihane and Ayew. Thats half the side.
Ayew dragged us through last season through his own sheer brilliance at times, we were solid, but not deserving of where we ended up.
You cannot say that Coopers team kept the ball as well as we have so far this season?
You're just a massive Cooper fanboy, its embarrassing.

It is more embarrassing to come out as Martin fan man.

We have achieved 1 point out of 6.

No not a massive fan boy but just SCFC fan who believed our previous manager who some on here call a fraud , or even useless schieved very well given the resources at his disposal. As you say we were "not deserving of where we ended up" but we were as the manager set us up to get results

We may not have kept the ball as much as the start of this season but we did more with it

Game 1 Last season
40% possession,6 shots , 1 on target , 1 goal 3 points
Game 1 this season
72% possession,7 shots,4 on target 1 goal 0 points nearly twice the possession resulting in 1 extra shot? and 0 points

Game 2 Last season
61% Possession 10 shots 3 on target no goals 1 point

Game 2 this season
63 % possesion 8 shots 2 on target no goals 1 point

So what has this extra possession brought us? 2 % more possession in the SU fixture and 2 less shots and 3 less points!
I understand we all want to be entertained but I also want my team to be succesful and win...which will be the aim of our owners....they want us promoted and back in the PL....we are of no use to them in the Championship!

I t will be argued that the quality of the opposition Sheff Utd offered was better than Birmingham last season but the stats dont lie....more possession yet less attempts at goal wasnt the previous manager much criticised for being "nrgative" yet teh numbers show we have not generated any more attack just passed the ball around in our own half....Ian Walsh made this comment on Saturday as I listened to call ROb Phillips on the way to the game its great holding on to the ball but you have to have purpose.

Yes its only Martins 3rd league game tonight and we are in transisiton but Cooper would be being shouted down by now for leaving out Piroe...as he was with Whittaker last season who Martin doesbt seem that keen to pick either it seems....

Cooper has gone so lets get behind Martin but lets not all think its better than it was......we just think it is mainly because the crowds are back I know if I had been at home watching on the tele Saturday night with zero atmosphere due to no crowd I would have been reaching for the remote.

I'm sorry but can you not see the marked difference between last season and the little we have this year.
To describe last season as boring would be complementary. And im sure if fans were allowed in Cooper wouldve been gone before the summer.

Getting the players to change from being ultra conservative to playing a style similar to what we have done in our most succesful era is going to take time, but you can already see in patches where we have zipped the ball about that something is happening.

We have just lacked a cutting edge, not helped by losing our only true gamewinner in Ayew and nobody coming in as of yet. Piroe wasnt a RM signing.
