I have to say I like Martins press conferences. I hope he sticks with it and I hope they stick with him even if we go down.

"We had a lot of control. We didn't start very well and the guys were tired. We knew this. This was our biggest fear before the game. We are not quite conditioned well enough to play the way we want to play, but we'll get there.

"We've got a few square pegs in round holes, there's no doubt about it.

"But they've been brilliant. The style of play and people playing out of position are not the reasons we lose tonight, we lose because we can't defend two set-pieces."

Another dig regarding fitness, he has a point. Shocker of a pre season.

I've seen some shite with the swans but that was up there as one of the worst
Grimes has too take the lions share ,poor is being kind
Passing for passing sack is a no no ,not moving into space another ,you want to play this style you have to form triangles and move
If in space move forward at pace with the ball
If on the edge 9f the box moving like dhanda hit the bloody thing
As a professional football player you know when to play about with it and when to get rid of it no matter what the manager wants
At this rate he won't see xmas

I thought Grimes had limited options in front of him. I think he's a good player, and will follow a script. I think previously, our strategy was on a game by game basis, ie concentrate on the result. I think what Martin wants is to look longer term, concentrate on the performance and the results will follow. It's mega early days, largely these aren't his players, they lack confidence, maybe fitness and perhaps belief. We need to be patient, I think he will be an excellent coach for us, if we can be patient, and he is supported.

Yep... If this season was a 10k race the swans started it 5k behind the starting line, we've got done catching up to do.

Grimes may have had limited options but, as captain, if he's not seeing players showing for the ball from him, he should be giving them a bollocking. But of course he doesn't - because he never speaks on the pitch. Pathetic. How he's been our captain for so long is one of the mysteries of the last couple of years.

The other reason he doesn't see options in front of him is that they'd have to be in a position where he could pass to them with his left foot. How often do you see him unable to pass because it would require him to use his right foot? I see it all the time. For example - first half, he's running down the right touchline with the ball, can't pass because he'd need to use his right foot - loses the ball, they counter attack. Poor.

I have no fear of us going down. We’ve played a couple of top teams… even playing like this I think we’d pick up points that would see us comfortably mid table… and we’ll also add to the squad and we’ll continue to get better

If we played like that last night we'd comfortably beat teams...are you serious? Play like that we won't beat anyone. I'm the biggest optimist, but last night has set off some serious alarm bells with me, even this early in season. Time we realized that Ayew not here to bail us out now, we are in deep shit I'm telling you.

Hey least we are winning the possesion stats! for all the stick I seen thrown at Woodman I dont see the overhype with benda he looks erratic and shakey we lost the ball from his kicking to often last night!

I think Ayew provided leadership on the pitch and in the dressing room. The first thing that needs to happen is get Bennett fit and make him captain, or buy someone with some leadership quality that can last more than two consecutive games. Hate to say it but them up the road do have it in that scumbag Morrison.

Then we need to sort out some pace and some attacking pattern. At the moment we are totally in reverse. There are more beatings in the post. Games like Fulham and Muff may not be much fun for sure, but we’ve got to hold our nerve now. We simply had to try and transition and build up again. Just need to suck up the growing pains. I do admit that last night shocked me a bit mind you. It was real carnage. If what Martin said is what he really believed, he’s wrong. If Stoke hadn’t scored from three giveaways, they’d have scored some other way. They were a class above last night’s version of us.

Fair points. I think it will take them all time to adapt, as it looks like playing looping balls over the top is the very last resort. Just about all our players looked uncomfortable last night. The last thing they needed was a high press and intensity opposition! Once the possession based game will become 2nd nature (right now they're concentrating on it) we'll be fine. As I say, early days.

Hes had 2 weeks with them, we had a disrupted, whats up doc pre season, what the feck do you expect?!

Its going to be a long hard season of rebuilding, we seen similar after the Monk super season!!!

keep the faith. and fingers crossed.

Tbh saint we get this type of post the start of every season without fail (not saying from you). The guy has been here 2 weeks, 4/5 first team players injured, no pre season etc. I’m sorry but I can’t see us getting relegated in this division even with the squad we have now. Stoke we’re bloody good last night as much as we were rubbish. On the other hand we played very well against a stronger Sheffield united. It’ll come, but it’ll take time

We’re absolute dogshite at the moment.
On this current showing we’re due a 5-0 thumping from Cardiff in a couple of months. Just imagine that.

I get all that. But we weren't good last Saturday ( not 1 shot on target).
And I've seen some dodgy season starts in 40 yrs I can tell you. But I've a bad feeling bout this.....we are so easy to play against is worrying. Traditionally thers a 'bounce ' after a thumping. I'm dreading Friday cos cant see anything but the same. And just like when yer top 6 in this league you tend to stay there, a few weeks time we maybe cut adrift. Let's see how patient we all are then.
