It does not sound like you are happy that Matt is doing well. I am very happy that Matt is doing well.

I understand where you’re coming from but what doesn’t make sense is that he was ever present selection for every manager. If he was shitting out of everything all the time why wasn’t he dropped? Was he basically doing the job that every manager asked him to do?
apart from the first 4 seasons he was with us when we were in the premier league and he made a total of 4 appearances. He was ever present when we got relegated. I have screamed at him in over 90% of those games because of his lack of effort, nonchalance and his shithousery but most of all his lack of basic ability to take a corner that reached our players.
His ignorance and self importance in our village was on another level.
Good riddance

He was so bad that he was an ever present in the Championship with numerous managers. You’ve outlined what an utter shithouse he was but you haven’t answered the question that I asked. Why? It doesn’t make sense.

Hypnosis? Witchcraft? We’ll never know.

Yes, it truly doesn't make sense. Every manager picked him after we got relegated even though 20000 in the stands couldn't understand why. There were many games we were losing by 1 goal or drawing with 30 seconds left on the clock and he would halt in midfield and pass back to the defence.

I'd blame the managers more than Grimes, he played the way they wanted him too.
Nothing to stop any of them dropping him, he was hardly ever substituted.
The only one who ever did anything different with him was Potter

Let's all hope Vito's been watching the Vids - Matty's masterclass in controlling, commanding and architecting from our pivotal core - just like he's now doing again, for Coventry, blasting the way to the top of our league.

Wit the right coaching from Leon and Joey, Ethan has the latent tools to emulate Matty's prowess and fill the aching, gaping massive chasm in our midfield space.

All eyes on Vito to get this right, and do what's blindingly obviously right ..........

I am in the why did our previous 5 managers constantly select him to play and select him has captain camp? Also why, after a very short time, has the Coventry manager done exactly the same?

I think the phrase 'f*ck knows' probably covers it.

Personally, I think Grimes was an average-to-decent midfielder at this level, someone who loved to pass about for the sake of it and was also encouraged by the managers we've had to increase the amount of pointless passing.

Sometimes players thrive elsewhere due to changes in coaches, systems or just general happiness with the people around him in the squad. Seems like this has happened at Coventry. We had plenty of examples of this around our rise up the leagues and into the PL - players who were seen as duds becoming a different animal.

I think Grimes is a very good player, a much better player than we often saw down in SA1. I think he played the way managers wanted him to and the players around him weren’t as good as the players he’s playing with now. Just look at the sideways and backwards passing, lack of movement we’ve seen of late, if no one is pressing forward or running in to space there’s not much hope of fast early balls.
